What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Video Compositing Specialist, and why are they important?

To excel as a Video Compositing Specialist, you need a solid understanding of visual effects (VFX), digital compositing techniques, and a background in film, animation, or design. Mastery of industry-standard software such as Adobe After Effects, Nuke, and familiarity with color grading tools is typically required. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with teams and bring creative visions to life. These abilities ensure seamless integration of visual elements, resulting in polished and compelling final video products.

What is the salary of a video compositor?

The salary of a video compositor typically ranges from $40,000 to $90,000 per year, depending on experience, location, and industry. Entry-level positions may start lower, while experienced compositors with advanced skills in software like After Effects or Nuke can earn higher salaries.

What is video compositing?

Video compositing is the process of combining multiple visual elements from different sources into a single, cohesive video frame or sequence. This technique is commonly used in film, television, and digital media to create scenes that would be difficult or impossible to capture in real life, such as adding special effects, backgrounds, or computer-generated imagery (CGI). Compositors use specialized software to layer, blend, and manipulate footage, ensuring that all elements appear seamlessly integrated. The goal is to create a final image that looks natural and visually compelling to the audience.

How much do compositing artists make?

Compositing artists typically earn between $50,000 and $100,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Entry-level artists may start lower, while experienced professionals working on high-budget projects or with advanced skills in software like Nuke or After Effects can earn higher salaries.

What is the difference between Video Compositing vs Video Editing?

AspectVideo CompositingVideo Editing
Primary FocusCombining multiple visual elements into a single scene, often using green screens and visual effectsAssembling raw footage, cutting, and arranging clips to create a coherent story
Skills & ToolsVisual effects, compositing software (After Effects, Nuke), color correctionEditing software (Premiere Pro, Final Cut), timeline management
Work EnvironmentPost-production studios, VFX houses, film and TV productionPost-production suites, film sets, online editing facilities

Video Compositing and Video Editing are related but distinct roles in post-production. Video compositing focuses on integrating multiple visual elements to create seamless scenes, often involving visual effects and compositing software. Video editing involves assembling and refining footage to tell a story. Both roles require different skill sets and tools but often collaborate within the same production environment.

What are some common challenges faced by video compositing professionals when integrating live-action footage with CGI elements?

One of the main challenges in video compositing is achieving seamless integration between live-action footage and CGI elements, which often requires careful attention to lighting, color matching, and perspective. Compositors must also deal with issues like motion tracking inaccuracies, green screen spill, and differences in image resolution or noise. Effective communication and collaboration with VFX supervisors, artists, and editors are essential to address these challenges and deliver high-quality results within tight deadlines.

Is VFX in high demand?

Video compositing is a key component of VFX, which is experiencing steady growth due to increased demand for visual effects in film, television, advertising, and gaming. Skilled compositors with proficiency in tools like Adobe After Effects and Nuke are sought after, especially as high-quality visual content becomes more prevalent across media platforms.

Job description

Who We Are

Parenting isn't picture-perfect. It's messy, hilarious, exhausting, and life-changing - sometimes all before noon. That's where we come in.

Founded in 2014 by our CEO Chelsea Hirschhorn, Frida was built to make the raw reality of parenting a little easier to navigate (and a lot less overwhelming). It all started with one legendary snot-sucker - the NoseFrida - and has grown into a 200+ product lineup that supports families through every stage: from fertility and postpartum recovery to baby care and beyond.

We don't shy away from the stuff no one else wants to talk about - nipple pain, diaper blowouts, or the emotional rollercoaster that comes with keeping a tiny human alive. We call it like it is, solve the problems that actually matter, and build products that help parents feel seen, supported, and totally capable.

You can now find Frida products in 50+ countries and thousands of stores across the U.S., from the biggest national retailers to your neighborhood grocery aisle.

Under Hirschhorn's leadership, Frida has become a category leader by challenging taboos, championing honesty, and supporting families at every stage of parenthood and beyond, earning acclaim on TIME's 100 Most Influential Companies, TIME Best Inventions, Fast Company Most Innovative Companies and Fast Company Brands That Matter. But the real win? Knowing we're helping parents everywhere feel a little more human and a little less alone.

How You Will Make an Impact

Frida is looking for a Junior Art Director to join our Marketing team and play a key role in shaping how our brand shows up across campaigns, content, and culture. In this role, you'll partner closely with the Sr. Art Director to develop campaign concepts, build visual worlds, and bring them to life through photography, video, and design. You should have a strong point of view on visual storytelling, with a particular strength in photographic art direction, mood boarding, and translating ideas into compelling shot lists and on-set direction.

The right candidate is both a thinker and a maker, someone who can contribute to big ideas and execute against them with a high level of taste. You should be comfortable flexing across different tones and aesthetics, from premium brand campaigns to lo-fi, social-first content, and know how to build a visual approach that ladders up to the needs of each project.

You won't just execute, you'll help shape the work. From concepting campaign ideas and social activations to directing shoots and guiding post-production (including retouching direction), this role requires both creative ownership and the ability to bring ideas to life.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Concept and develop campaign ideas, creating visual territories and executions that help bring ideas to life and sell them through clearly and compellingly
  • Photoshoot development end-to-end, including concepting, mood board creation, shot list development, and on-set art direction across both photo and video
  • Partner with the Sr. Art Director to co-develop and execute creative across campaigns, activations, and social, contributing ideas and taking ownership where appropriate
  • Translate brand and business objectives into strong visual direction, ensuring all creative work is aligned with Frida's voice, tone, and strategic goals
  • Contribute to social-first concepting, helping shape content that feels culturally relevant while maintaining a strong point of view on art direction and execution
  • Maintain and evolve Frida's visual identity, ensuring consistency across photography, video, and design systems while pushing the brand forward
  • Guide post-production and retouching direction, ensuring final assets meet a high bar for quality, taste, and brand alignment
  • Bring ideas to life through hands-on execution when needed, with strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite-particularly Photoshop for compositing, retouching, and visual storytelling
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with brand, marketing, and production partners to ensure creative work is both strategically sound and effectively executed
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, owning timelines and deliverables while maintaining a high level of creative quality
  • Act as a creative partner across teams, helping connect brand, product, and marketing through strong visual thinking

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Advertising, or a related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in a creative role (art direction, design, or related), with a strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking and visual storytelling
  • Experience contributing to or leading aspects of photoshoots and/or video production, including concepting, mood boards, and shot list development
  • Strong understanding of photographic and video art direction, including composition, styling, casting, and visual storytelling
  • Ability to develop and communicate visual ideas clearly, from concept through execution
  • A strong point of view on taste and aesthetics, with the ability to flex across different visual styles depending on the needs of the project
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, with strong skills in Photoshop (retouching, compositing, image-making) and Illustrator
  • Ability to translate ideas into tangible creative, using design and visual tools to help sell in concepts and bring them to life
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to confidently articulate ideas to cross-functional teams and leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of craft
  • Detail-oriented with a strong eye for quality, consistency, and execution
  • Portfolio website required. We're looking for well-crafted, thoughtfully presented work that clearly communicates both concept and execution.
