Job description
We are committed to building a workplace where everyone feels heard and respected, and extending our culture of care so that every individual can reach their full potential. We want you to have a sense of belonging and feel valued for your contributions and the perspectives you bring.
Summary:
The VP, Transmission & Distribution (T&D) is the P&L owner for the T&D business unit, with full accountability for revenue, margin, and cost. This role drives profitable growth of the business unit through disciplined operational execution and proactive business development. This role oversees all day-to-day project activities and the long-term strategic direction of the T&D business unit, including Transmission, Substation/Switchyard, and general high and medium voltage construction projects across the U.S. The VP is fully accountable for the business unit’s financial performance — revenue, margin, and cost — and serves as the primary client-facing leader for the T&D business.
The T&D business unit is responsible for standalone transmission and distribution projects that are independent of our core EPC projects. The work is primarily construction-focused, although there may be opportunities for the T&D business unit to support engineering and procurement activities as needed.
Working hand-in-hand with Business Development resources, this leader is responsible for identifying, pursuing, securing, negotiating, and executing construction contracts. The VP will build and maintain strong client relationships, grow the T&D construction pipeline, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. Direct reports include Pre-Construction, Estimating, and Project Directors, who are accountable for the execution of T&D projects. The VP works collaboratively with Operations and support functions across the broader organization to ensure projects are appropriately staffed, including disciplined workforce planning and resource forecasting. This position reports to the SVP, U.S. EPC and T&D.
Preferred location is Denver, CO or Houston, TX. The role requires regular presence at RES corporate headquarters in Denver alongside frequent client and project site travel. Candidates outside these markets will be considered based on their ability to meet the travel requirements of the position.
Requirements:
- Owns full P&L accountability for the T&D business unit, including revenue, margin, cost management, and monthly financial forecasting; directly leads Pre-Construction, Estimating, and Project Directors responsible for project execution, and reports business unit financial performance to SVP, U.S. EPC and T&D.
- Develops, reviews, and re-defines the business strategy for profitable growth of the business unit; responsible for a three-year business plan including HSQE, revenue, and profit targets.
- Ensures projects are completed safely and according to the planned schedule and budget.
- Ensures that environmental stewardship meets or exceeds contractual requirements and regional regulations.
- Ensures that company management systems, including HSQE, stage gate, and project management processes, are followed and implemented.
- Partners with Business Development resources to identify, pursue, and win new T&D project opportunities; leads or supports contract negotiations with owners and subcontractors.
- Performs budget management, estimate reviews, budget preparation, and monthly status reviews.
- Leads monthly project reviews for all business unit projects and reports on key project performance to Executive Leadership Team.
- Leads Project Management and Senior T&D Management meetings for internal project status.
- Identifies risks and opportunities to the monthly financial forecast and resolves all issues to mitigate risks and capture opportunities to improve business unit performance.
- Leads workforce planning and resource forecasting for the T&D Construction business unit; works collaboratively with Operations and support functions across the organization to ensure projects are appropriately staffed; performs talent management, staffing reviews, and succession planning focused on leadership-level roles.
- Travels for negotiations, project site visits, and internal and client meetings.
- Serves as the primary client-facing executive for the T&D business; builds and maintains senior client relationships, proactively addresses concerns, resolves project issues, and finalizes change orders while protecting and growing the client relationship.
- Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
- Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.
- Collaborates with external engineers, clients, and Pre-Construction to drive constructability into the project development process, ensuring designs are practical, safe, and optimized for efficient field execution.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Leads the T&D construction pursuit process; reviews and approves proposals, coordinates with Business Development on go/no-go decisions, and represents RES in client-facing proposal presentations. Maintains accountability for the T&D new contract award pipeline and reports regularly on business development progress and market opportunities to SVP, U.S. EPC and T&D
- In collaboration with Commercial and Legal groups, prepare risk management and approval papers per the Stage-Gate and LOA requirements.
- Assists in the development of standard substation designs in collaboration with Engineering to provide efficient, repeatable solutions for clients.
- Drives innovation in construction methods and technology to improve safety, productivity, and project delivery outcomes.
- Collaborates with HSQE, Commercial, PMO, Operational Excellence, and Engineering groups as required for process implementation and improvement.
- Collaborates with the EPC business unit and support functions to ensure project execution consistency, as well as supporting EPC Pre-Construction on planning and estimating as required to support HV scopes for their projects.
- For select projects, the T&D business unit may engage with engineering activities in support of client needs. This role ensures appropriate collaboration through Pre-Construction and other organizational functions to deploy the right engineering resources and expertise.
