Company Description Hexagon Transportation Consultants is looking for a Travel Demand Modeler to join and help lead our well-established Bay Area modeling practice. Whether you are an experienced modeler ready to deepen your technical impact or a seasoned professional looking to help shape a practice, we want to talk with you.

Our modeling work is widely respected across the Bay Area and surrounding counties. We have developed citywide models for numerous jurisdictions and apply them to long-range planning projects that influence how the region grows. We have also supported BART with model runs for more than 20 years.

This role offers the chance to develop, calibrate, and apply travel demand models across a diverse project portfolio, working alongside a collaborative team of planners and engineers. We are hiring across multiple levels and will tailor the role and responsibilities to your experience

Role Description

• Develop, calibrate, and validate travel demand models using industry-standard platforms (e.g., CUBE, TransCAD)

• Apply models to a range of long-range planning projects requiring VMT, turning-movement, or ADT forecasts

• Analyze transportation data from multiple sources, including traffic counts, transit ridership, household travel surveys, and emerging mobility data

• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and visualizations that communicate modeling methodologies and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences

Senior / Principal: Lead modeling tasks, mentor junior staff, and serve as a technical resource across multiple projects

Principal: Help shape the direction of our modeling practice, manage client relationships, and support business development and proposal efforts

• Support the firm’s broader traffic engineering and transportation planning studies as needed, such as level-of-service and queuing analysis, site circulation review, and CEQA/VMT traffic studies

We welcome candidates across three levels. All candidates should bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field

• Proficiency with at least one major travel demand modeling software package (CUBE, TransCAD)

• Familiarity with at least one major Bay Area model

• Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization tools (Python, R, SQL, or similar)

• Strong analytical skills and the communication ability to translate complex modeling results into

actionable insights

Experience by Level:

Mid-Level: 5+ years of travel demand modeling experience

Senior-Level: 8+ years, with demonstrated project leadership and mentoring

Principal-Level: 12+ years, with practice leadership, client management, and business development experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with activity-based models (e.g., ActivitySim, DaySim)

• Travel demand model script development (e.g., Cube Voyager, TransCAD GISDK) for custom forecasting and analysis procedures

• Management of citywide model inputs—demographics and land use—along with model calibration and validation

• Model forecast extrapolation, post-processing, and adjustment for project-level analysis (e.g., NCHRP 765 methods)

• Experience with GIS applications and spatial analysis

• Familiarity with traffic operations and level-of-service analysis software (e.g., TRAFFIX, Synchro, Vissim)

• AICP certification

• Published research or conference presentations in transportation modelin

Why Hexagon?

• High-impact work, from citywide models to long-range regional and transit forecasting
