Global Head of Indirect Tax (VP)

Lead the Future of Global Indirect Tax Compliance
World Fuel is seeking a transformational Vice President, Indirect Tax to lead and modernize our global indirect tax organization.
This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for defining and executing the global strategy for indirect tax compliance across a complex, multinational business operating in highly regulated markets. The successful candidate will oversee a global team managing high-volume indirect tax compliance obligations while driving operational excellence, technology innovation, governance, and risk management.
Reporting to senior finance leadership, the VP, Indirect Tax will serve as the organization's senior authority on indirect tax matters, partnering closely with executive stakeholders to ensure compliance, scalability, and business alignment in an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

What You'll Do
Shape the Global Indirect Tax Strategy
  • Develop and execute the global vision, strategy, and operating model for indirect tax compliance.
  • Serve as the executive leader and trusted advisor on indirect tax matters across the organization.
  • Anticipate emerging regulatory developments and drive proactive business readiness.
  • Provide strategic guidance to senior leadership on compliance risk, operational effectiveness, and transformation opportunities.
Lead Transformation and Operational Excellence
  • Design and implement a best-in-class global compliance operating model.
  • Drive standardization, centralization, and continuous improvement across indirect tax processes.
  • Lead large-scale transformation initiatives focused on scalability, efficiency, automation, and controls.
  • Create sustainable processes that support future business growth.
Ensure World-Class Compliance and Governance
  • Maintain oversight of indirect tax compliance activities across all relevant jurisdictions.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and complete filing obligations are met globally.
  • Establish and strengthen governance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Build and maintain a strong control environment focused on audit readiness and risk mitigation.
Drive Technology and Digital Enablement
  • Champion the use of technology, automation, analytics, and reporting solutions.
  • Lead the adoption of tax technology platforms and process automation tools.
  • Improve data quality, reporting accuracy, operational transparency, and efficiency through digital transformation.
  • Partner with Finance, IT, and business leaders to create scalable solutions that support future needs.
Build and Develop a High-Performing Organization
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a global team of indirect tax professionals.
  • Develop talent, succession plans, and organizational capabilities.
  • Create a culture focused on accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Build strong partnerships across Finance, Tax, IT, Audit, Legal, and the broader business.
Influence at the Executive Level
  • Deliver insights and recommendations to senior leadership regarding compliance performance, emerging risks, and strategic initiatives.

  • Support enterprise decision-making through data-driven analysis and strategic guidance.

What You'll Bring
Experience
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in indirect tax, tax compliance, tax governance, or finance leadership roles.
  • Significant leadership experience within a multinational organization.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. indirect taxes, including sales and use tax, gross receipts tax, jet fuel tax, motor fuel tax, and related compliance requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of international indirect tax frameworks, including VAT, GST, HST, mineral oil taxes, and similar regimes.
  • Proven experience leading large, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Demonstrated success driving organizational transformation, process optimization, and technology adoption.
Technical & Leadership Capabilities
  • Expertise designing tax governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of tax technology platforms, automation, analytics, and reporting solutions.
  • Executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to balance strategic leadership with operational execution.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within the energy, fuel, commodities, transportation, or similarly complex industries.
  • Experience leading large-scale compliance transformation initiatives.
  • Exposure to shared services, global business services, or centralized operating models.
  • Experience implementing automation, reporting, analytics, or RPA solutions within tax operations.
