Urban Development Vice President and Civil Engineering Principal in Charge
Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc has a full-time opportunity for a Principal-in-Charge/Vice President for our Rio Rancho office. The candidate will have at least 15 years of experience and will be a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas. Duties include but not limited to, business development, mentoring staff, initial project research, management of plan production staff, plan processing and management of plan processing efforts, construction administration and project close out efforts.
Location: Rio Rancho, New Mexico
Employment Type: 40 FT Hours (In-Office)

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE)
Duties:
  • Function as a Lead Principal-in-charge and as a Senior Project Manager on key projects.
  • Identify contacts/clients/opportunities for new work.
  • Train/mentor staff and review work for quality assurance.
  • Grow the Federal and Institutional group.
  • Ensure the Project Manager and/or Project Teams have the resources necessary to meet scheduling and budget commitments on projects.
  • Interface daily with clients, develop proposals, negotiate scopes and fees, ensure timely billing and collections and prepare change orders.
  • Strategic planning of Federal and Institutional marketing.
  • Responsible for assigned portion of office sales goals.
  • Prepare project work plan and schedule for projects.
  • Manage the preparation of design and construction drawings.
  • Direct a staff with varied levels of experience and expertise.
  • Plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of projects with a high degree of technical complexity.
  • Review work and propose changes to design, and to comply with building codes.
  • Prepare plan of action to resolve project issues.
  • Supervise project team cooperatively with the project designer.
  • Provide technically sound designs for our clients.
  • Ensure quality controls measures are being adhered to on project delivery.
  • Initiate and lead kickoff calls or high-level design calls with client in addition to preparing monthly forecasting and client cost estimates when appropriate.

Qualifications:
  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Must be a licensed PE in New Mexico with a minimum of 15 years of experience and 8 years of project management experience.
  • Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports.
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to train/mentor staff and review work for quality assurance.
  • Solid leadership and management skills, self-motivated, and possess a strong ability to meet deadlines, satisfy clients, and solve complex problems.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, and Civil3D are all a plus.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Willingness/ability to assume increased responsibilities when presented.
  • Consistently deliver proactive communication with clients. When client issues arise, address or expeditiously escalate to discipline lead.
  • Develop relationships with clients that allows for ease in communications and problem solving.
  • Troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions, effectively implement and document for internal and external stakeholders.

Principal-in-Charge (PIC) Role Annual Performance Goals & Expectations:
  • Having a deep understanding of how your work and contributions as a co-owner add to Huitt-Zollars' mission and core values.
  • Maintaining expected Effective Labor Multiplier (ELM) on sum of all associated projects.
  • Ensure direct reports meet established utilization targets.
  • Consistently upholds business processes including timely monthly A/R's, invoicing, timekeeping, resource forecasting, percent completes, etc.
  • Achieves personal sales goal.
  • Achieves stated target personal utilization goal for PIC.
  • Understands, follows and ensures quality control measures and risk management measures are being applied and adhered to projects and daily operations.
