Job description

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Marietta, GA — 100% In Office

Type: Full-time, exempt — senior, hands-on leadership

Team: One AP/AR specialist; partners with outside accounting (Infosync), an external HR/benefits provider, and outside legal counsel

Compensation: $135,000–$165,000 base, plus performance bonus and benefits

Company Overview

  • Our client is a national leader in their field, which is within home improvement. They are operating through a fast-growing franchise network alongside company-owned corporate markets. In the past year the business has nearly doubled revenue and grown the network from the high-20s to mid-40s in locations, with aggressive growth ahead. They are a lean, fast-moving company where leaders own outcomes end-to-end and technology is a force multiplier.

Position Summary

  • The VP of Finance is the senior-most finance leader at the company and a true hands-on operator. This is not a role that sits above the work and directs others — it is the person who personally closes the books, builds the analysis, submits payroll, reviews the contract, and resolves the benefits question, while also owning financial strategy for the company. The role carries three hats: all of finance and accounting, the company’s primary legal liaison and contract steward, and the senior point of contact for HR. Outside partners sit behind each of these — but the VP of Finance is the one accountable for making sure the work actually gets done, on time, every time.
  • We are looking for someone with exceptional attention to detail who executes relentlessly on the small things and closes loops without being chased. The right person uses modern tools — including AI — to turn what used to take days into hours, freeing the CEO to operate as a visionary rather than a checker of follow-through. Speed, accuracy, and ownership are the whole job.

Key Responsibilities

  • Finance & Strategy
  • Financial leadership: Own the company’s financial strategy, planning, forecasting, and unit economics; serve as the CEO’s primary thought partner on the numbers and capital allocation.
  • Fast analysis: Deliver decision-ready analysis in hours, not days. Leverage AI and modern tooling to compress turnaround dramatically — this is a core expectation of the role, not a bonus.
  • Planning & analysis: Build and maintain budgets, rolling forecasts, and scenario models across corporate and franchise operations, translating data into clear decisions.
  • Board & investor support: Produce timely, accurate reporting for the CEO and Board; support fundraising, valuation, and diligence.
  • Metrics: Steward the financial and operating metrics that drive the business (revenue per appointment, COGS, margin, unit economics), including the analysis run out of our custom systems.
  • Accounting & Controller (hands-on)
  • Books & close: Personally own the full accounting function — GL, AP/AR oversight, month end close, and timely, accurate financial statements — supported by one AP/AR specialist and Infosync as external accountant.
  • Payroll: Run and submit payroll accurately and on schedule.
  • Accounting software: Own and operate the company’s accounting platform (Restaurant365 / R365); drive accuracy and efficiency in the close.
  • Controls & compliance: Maintain internal controls, accounting policy, and audit readiness; manage the relationship with Infosync and tax advisors.
  • Multi-entity: Handle accounting and consolidated reporting across the company’s legal entities and corporate-owned markets.
  • Legal Liaison
  • Contract steward: Be the single owner who keeps contracts moving — review, turn around, and manage franchise agreements, vendor and supplier contracts, leases, employment/engagement agreements, and other commercial documents. No agreement sits idle waiting on this person.
  • Read, interpret, draft: Read and interpret legal documents and draft basic agreements directly; serve as the primary go-between with outside counsel and escalate only what truly needs a lawyer.
  • Franchise & risk: Support franchise-disclosure (FDD) and compliance obligations with counsel; oversee corporate insurance, entity governance, and risk.
  • HR Liaison
  • Primary go-between: Serve as the main point of contact between the company, our external HR provider, and our legal team on people matters — keeping issues from falling through the cracks.
  • Comp, benefits, payroll policy: Administer and advise on compensation, benefits, and payroll policy with the benefits provider; ensure plans are competitive and compliant.
  • Take on more over time: Handle routine HR matters directly and lean on outside partners less as comfort grows, while the external team remains available behind the scenes.

What Success Looks Like

  • Speed: Analysis the CEO asks for in the morning is back the same day, not days later — because the role uses AI and good systems to move fast.
  • Nothing drifts: Contracts get reviewed and returned promptly; the days of an agreement sitting for months are over. Small, necessary tasks get done without anyone having to chase them.
  • Trust & autonomy: The CEO can step fully into the visionary seat, confident that finance, legal follow-through, and HR are handled accurately and proactively.

Qualifications Required

  • Strong finance and accounting background with hands-on ownership of a full set of books and a monthly close (CPA NOT required).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a proven habit of executing the small things and closing loops independently.
  • Fluent reading and interpreting a P able to translate financials into decisions.
  • Genuinely comfortable with technology — quick to learn new systems, including a custom-built CRM (Canvas) and R365 — and an active user of AI to work faster.
  • Able to read, interpret, and draft basic legal/contract documents and work effectively with outside counsel.
  • Comfortable running payroll and coordinating HR and benefits with external partners.
  • Strongly Preferred
  • Understanding of franchising and franchise operations.
  • Experience in a lean, high-growth, multi-entity or multi-location business.
  • Exposure to fundraising, diligence, or Board/investor reporting.

Who Thrives There

  • Fast, accurate, and accountable. Someone who would rather just handle it than delegate and wait — equally credible reading a P&L, turning around a franchise agreement, submitting payroll, and resolving a benefits question — and who treats the CEO’s time and the company’s capital as their own. If you sweat the details, love using technology to move faster, and take pride in nothing ever falling through the cracks, this role is built for you.
