BMO is seeking a senior commercial professional to lead the origination, structuring, and execution of low carbon fuel and environmental commodity opportunities across North America. This role combines client coverage, supply side origination, and market execution, with a focus on Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR), biofuels, renewable natural gas (RNG), biogas, carbon markets, and other low-carbon fuel programs.The successful candidate will identify and develop new commercial opportunities, structure innovative solutions for clients, and support trading and market activities that drive revenue growth. Sitting at the intersection of business development, market expertise, and commercial execution, this individual will work closely with technical, advisory, and trading teams to deliver tangible client outcomes and scalable growth opportunities.Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development & Client Origination
  • Develop and manage a pipeline of low carbon fuel and environmental market opportunities across producers, obligated parties, registered creators, project developers, and new market entrants.
  • Lead client engagement efforts, identify business needs, and position solutions that create commercial value.
  • Build and deepen strategic client relationships while driving revenue growth and mandate conversion.
  • Originate opportunities from initial engagement through execution and ongoing relationship management.
Commercial Structuring & Deal Development
  • Structure and negotiate low-carbon fuel supply agreements, credit development arrangements, and other environmental market transactions.
  • Translate regulatory, carbon intensity, pathway, and credit generation requirements into commercially viable client solutions.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to develop executable, competitive, and risk-adjusted deal structures.
  • Lead proposal development, scopes of work, and commercial presentations.
Market Analysis & Strategy
  • Monitor developments across low carbon fuel regulations, carbon markets, and environmental commodity programs.
  • Identify emerging market opportunities, new pathways, and evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with development of market analytics, pricing insights, and go-to-market strategies that support business growth.
  • Provide clients with actionable market intelligence and strategic guidance.
Skills & CompetenciesCommercial & Analytical Acumen
  • Strong understanding of low carbon fuel markets, carbon markets, environmental commodities, and credit generation mechanisms.
  • Ability to translate technical and regulatory complexity into commercially actionable opportunities.
  • Strong pricing, negotiation, and deal structuring capabilities.
  • Advanced analytical, modeling, and problem-solving skills.
Communication & Relationship Management
  • Exceptional client-facing communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop clear, compelling, and commercially focused materials.
  • Strong stakeholder management across clients, internal teams, and external partners.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple opportunities and priorities simultaneously.
Preferred Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental markets, energy trading, commodities, clean fuels, carbon markets, or related commercial roles.
  • Experience with CFR, LCFS, RINs, carbon credits, renewable fuels, RNG, biogas, or related environmental products.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client coverage, trading, or structured transactions.
  • Experience translating regulatory and technical requirements into commercial solutions.
  • Proven track record of revenue generation, deal execution, and relationship management.
  • Experience working in coordination with internal terms in a collaborative and highly driven environment.
  • Proven track record as a leader.
Please note the base salary for this role is $160,000 CAD.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group's total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
