Job description

Vice President/Director of Engineering

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Team: 2-5 engineers

Employment Type: Fully Remote, United States, Full-time, exempt.

About TeligentIP

TeligentIP is a world-class provider of cloud communications, contact center, and interactive messaging solutions, headquartered in Austin, Texas. We help businesses across the country modernize how they connect with their customers and each other, backed by a geo-redundant network, fast implementation, and 24/7 support. As we continue to grow, we're investing in engineering leadership that will take our platform and our team to the next level.

The Opportunity

TeligentIP is hiring a Vice President/Director of Engineering to lead our core product engineering team. Reporting directly to the CEO/COO, you will own the technical strategy, architecture, and delivery for our cloud communications platform, while building, mentoring, and scaling a high-performing engineering organization. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who wants to shape both the technology and the culture of a growing SaaS company fully remote, with real ownership over engineering outcomes.

What You’ll Do

•       Own the health, performance, and long-term technical strategy and architecture for TeligentIP’s cloud communications and messaging platform. Including servers, network infrastructure, and core applications.

•       Develop and communicate a long-term architectural roadmap that aligns technical direction with business objectives, presenting recommendations to executive leadership

•       Lead, grow, and mentor a small team of 2 – 5 engineers, hiring and structuring the team as it scales. The team will be responsible for infrastructure and platform operations.

•       Partner directly with the C-Level and cross-functional leaders in Product, Sales, and Support to translate business priorities into an executable engineering roadmap.

•       Manage IT infrastructure end-to-end, including servers and/or data center environments, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability.

•       Lead technical and maintenance projects such as software upgrades, hardware migrations, server virtualization initiatives, and capacity planning.

•       Manage relationships with technology and telecom vendors and carriers, including contract negotiations, performance reviews, and escalations.

•       Own uptime, incident response, and disaster recovery/business continuity planning for critical infrastructure, including participation in an on-call rotation.

•       Evaluate emerging technologies and make build-vs-buy and upgrade-vs-replace recommendations grounded in cost, risk, and business impact.

•       Maintain documentation, standards, and best practices for infrastructure and platform architecture.

•       Champion engineering best practices  code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, on-call and incident response, and security across the team.

•       Balance hands-on technical leadership (architecture reviews, key technical decisions) with day-to-day people management and career development.

•       Own platform reliability, scalability, and performance for a geo-redundant, always-on communications service.

•       Manage the engineering budget, tooling decisions, and key technology vendor relationships.

•       Report on engineering progress, risks, and key metrics to executive leadership.

What We’re Looking For

Required

•       8+ years of engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineering teams at the director or VP level.

•       A track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineering teams.

•       Excellent communication skills and comfort operating as a peer to executive leadership.

•       Experience owning production systems with high-availability and reliability requirements.

•       Direct experience in managing UCaaS infrastructure, including servers, network providers/carriers, and applications.

•       Experience with SIP trunking, hosted seats/hosted PBX provisioning, VoIP protocols, PSTN interconnects, and telecom carrier relationships.

•       Hands-on experience with Cisco BroadWorks, Ribbon SBC, F5 (load balancing/application delivery), and VMware,HPE or other similar virtualization platforms.

Preferred

•       Experience leading engineering in a remote or distributed organization at a company of similar size or stage.

•       Familiarity with modern backend and web technologies — Java/Spring and/or Node.js, Python, WebSocket’s and React.

•       Direct experience standing up and scaling server networks/environments from the ground up.

•       Experience with SMS/MMS messaging infrastructure and delivery (e.g., 10DLC, toll-free verification, carrier messaging requirements).

•       Familiarity with telecom regulatory and compliance considerations (e.g., E911, CALEA, FCC requirements) relevant to UCaaS providers.

•       Experience integrating UCaaS platforms with Microsoft Teams (Direct Routing, Operator Connect, or similar).

•       Experience working with ticketing/support systems such as Zoho (or similar platforms).

•       Experience working with the nuances of usage and subscription-based billing systems or platforms.

•       Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) in a hybrid or cloud-adjacent infrastructure environment.

•       Relevant certifications such as VMware VCP, Cisco CCNP/CCIE (Collaboration or Enterprise), F5 Certified Technology Specialist (F5-CTS), ITIL, or CompTIA Security+/similar.

•       Experience with monitoring, alerting, and incident management tooling (e.g., PagerDuty, Datadog, Nagios, or similar).

•       Prior experience in telecom, SaaS, or another high-uptime/regulated industry.

•       Budget ownership or P&L accountability for an infrastructure function.

Why TeligentIP

•       A true seat at the leadership table and direct partnership with the CEO and other C-Level executives with real influence over company direction.

•       The chance to build and shape an engineering team and culture from a strong existing foundation.

•       Fully remote flexibility with a company built on reliability, redundancy, and long-term customer relationships.

•       Competitive compensation and benefits (details shared during the interview process).

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit a resume and a brief note about your engineering leadership experience.
