Job description

Position Summary
FirstHealth of the Carolinas is a nationally recognized health care system located in central North Carolina. Comprised of four hospitals with more than 600 beds, the system also offers leading-edge heart care in the Reid Heart Center, the area's only dedicated heart and vascular center. Our growing health system has more than 6,200 employees serving in more than 75 locations throughout a 15-county service area. In addition, FirstHealth has received numerous accolades for its patient care and outcomes, including recognitions from Healthgrades, U.S. News & World Report, and Becker's Healthcare.
Providing GYN, Pediatric, NICU and OB services, our newly renovated unit has 9 LDR's and 10 triage rooms. We currently have over 2500 deliveries per year. There is a very collaborative working relationship with our physicians, midwives and practitioners. We started a new OB Hospitalist program in February, 2024 as well.
Responsibilities
Plans and directs the development, administration, and evaluation of the nursing clinical service budget(operating and capital) for areas of responsibility and is accountable for sound fiscal management. Plans/implements/markets/evaluates new services in conjunction with the Service Line and other services as applicable. Assures that all areas of responsibility are staffed according to approved standards and requirements.
Assures patient/family education with documentation in the Medical Record. Assures orientation of staff according to established standards. Assures staff development with outcomes demonstrated. Conducts departmental meetings per policy. Supervises all personnel selection, termination, disciplinary, and evaluation processes. Interviews, employs, and evaluates persons for those positions directly accountable to the Administrative Director. Confers with Vice President, Patient Care Services/CNO prior to final decision on direct report new hires, evaluations, and disciplinary actions. Is visible and accessible to staff and Medical Staff. Implements proactive actions to assure positive staff and Medical Staff relations.
Demonstrates positive outcomes with recruitment/retention. Develops/implements proper procedures to meet all regulatory body standards with a review, every three (3) years or on an as needed basis, of all policies/standards of care/ guidelines. Assures current licensure for RNs/LPNs and current listing cards for NAs. Utilizes comparative reports to obtain 90th percentile status in quality, staffing, customer relations, and financial areas.
Assures the development/implementation/ evaluation of quality, risk management, and customer relations programs in conjunction with the Service Line. Assures that all decisions are timely and consideration given to impact on patient care, financial resources, employee relations, public image, and departmental concerns. Rotates FH Moore Regional Hospital call.
Accepts responsibility for Patient Care Services as delegated by Vice President, Patient Care Services/CNO. Assures an on-call administrative person for the clinical areas 24 hours/day 7 days/week. Represents Nursing/Patient Care Administration at departmental meetings, as delegated. Assures availability/accessibility by making rounds on all three shifts.
Qualifications
Graduate of an approved RN School of Nursing with a current North Carolina RN license or RN multi-state licensure privilege through the Nurse Licensure Compact. Bachelors Degree required. Masters degree in Nursing or related field required. Certification in Nursing Administration or clinical specialty preferred. Minimum of five (5) years in nursing experience required in women and children's services, including labor and delivery and NICU. Must have at least three (3) years as a Clinical Director or equivalent management experience in women and children's services.
