The center is committed to delivering excellent service and exceeding expectations for clients and guests at every event.**SUMMARY**The Vice President of Operations provides strategic leadership and oversight for the operation, maintenance, safety, reliability, and continuous improvement of the Los Angeles Convention Center's physical assets, infrastructure, and operational support services. This position is responsible for directing the Engineering and Electrical divisions and ensuring the facility remains operationally ready to support all events, conventions, exhibitions, and public assemblies.The Vice President of Operations develops and implements operational strategies, policies, procedures, and performance standards that promote efficiency, regulatory compliance, asset preservation, fiscal responsibility, and exceptional client service. The position oversees preventive maintenance programs, capital improvement initiatives, contractor and vendor performance, risk management activities, and operational compliance while ensuring adherence to all company policies, contractual obligations, industry standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.This role serves as a key member of the facility's leadership team and is accountable for achieving operational objectives through effective planning, performance management, employee development, and continuous process improvement.**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**Provides overall leadership, direction, supervision, and performance management for the Engineering and Electrical divisions. Establishes departmental goals, performance expectations, and accountability measures to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.Directs the operation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, structural, utility distribution, and fire life safety systems. Ensures facility infrastructure remains reliable, safe, and fully operational.Ensures the facility is operationally prepared to support all conventions, exhibitions, meetings, entertainment events, and public assemblies. Coordinates operational resources, staffing, utilities, and facility services to meet client and event requirements.Develops, implements, and monitors comprehensive preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs designed to maximize asset life cycles, reduce downtime, improve reliability, and protect facility investments.Develops, implements, maintains, and enforces operational policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintenance standards, and best practices. Conducts regular audits, inspections, and reviews to ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.Develops, administers, and monitors departmental operating, capital, and maintenance budgets. Forecasts expenditures, manages resources, controls costs, evaluates financial performance, and identifies opportunities for operational efficiencies and revenue enhancement.Establishes and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs), service standards, maintenance metrics, and operational benchmarks. Analyzes performance data, identifies trends, and implements corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational effectiveness.Leads planning, budgeting, and execution of capital improvement projects, deferred maintenance initiatives, facility renovations, and infrastructure modernization efforts. Coordinates with ownership representatives, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure successful project delivery.Oversees contractor, consultant, and service provider performance. Reviews and approves work orders, purchase requisitions, contracts, invoices, and project expenditures. Ensure all external work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable standards and contractual requirements.Promotes a culture of safety and operational excellence. Ensures compliance with safety regulations, risk management programs, emergency preparedness plans, business continuity initiatives, Regulation 4 and fire life safety requirements. Responds to facility emergencies and directs corrective actions, as necessary.Conducts routine inspections and operational assessments of the facility, grounds, and infrastructure systems. Identifies deficiencies, develops corrective action plans, and ensures timely resolution of operational issues.Interviews, hires, develops, coaches, and evaluates staff. Establishes performance expectations, conducts performance reviews, addresses employee relations matters, and develops succession plans to support long-term organizational success.Collaborates with internal departments, clients, public agencies, contractors, ownership representatives, and business partners to support operational objectives and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction. Proactively develops and maintains key partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including the City of L.A., LAFD, LADBS and other regulatory and community partners, to facilitate effective coordination and operational success. Prepares reports, presentations, analyses, and recommendations for leadership.Performs special projects and other duties as assigned to support the operational and strategic objectives of the facility.**QUALIFICATIONS*** Experience preparing, monitoring, and analyzing a budget including personnel forecasting and expense projecting.* Strong organizational skills.* Must be proficient with computers and Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, & Outlook and ability to learn all required business systems.* Must be able to work under above-average pressure in meeting deadlines.* Must be able to work flexible hours as needed to meet project deadlines.* Must be able to read, write, and understand English in a working environment.* Understanding of operational processes and procedures with hands-on experience in procurement, logistics or project management.* Excellent time management skills. Outstanding communication skills. Needs to communicate effectively with clients, team members, and partners. Strong teamwork and analytical skills. Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks, work under pressure with challenging deadlines while delivering high quality results.* Must be able to process information in the form of computing financial data, compiling information for financial reports and verifying data from invoices.* Must be able to use good judgment and common sense, to make logical, cost effective and sometimes critical decisions while working under high pressure situations and within strict deadlines relating to procurement and inventory functions.* Must be able to maintain integrity and confidentiality while working with purchasing information and other pertinent sensitive information.* Ensure all local municipality codes, ordinances, Legends Global policies, procedures, risk management, safety precautions, state regulations, and emergency procedures are followed.* Must be able to draft, manage, distribute, respond to, or analyze RFIs, RFPs, RFQs or supplier terms & conditions as needed.* Must have reliable transportation.* Required variable work schedules such as late hours, early mornings, extended hours, holidays, and weekends.**EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE*** A minimum education of a High School Diploma or equivalent with certificates in related fields: in business administration or construction engineering, or similar related fields.* A minimum of 10+ years of related operations, facilities, and/or maintenance work experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*** Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in related fields: in business administration or construction engineering.* Industry certifications: Contractor License is preferred.* Previous management experience in a convention center highly preferred.* Experience in similar construction project, a plus.* Knowledge of Momentus or similar software.**PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:**The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
