The Reserving Innovation & Data team is an exciting new opportunity within the broader Reserving and Loss Analytics team at Arch. Its mission is to elevate how data and analytics are leveraged across Reserving. The team will serve as both a center of expertise and a catalyst for innovation, efficiency, and more sophisticated analytics across the entire Reserving team.

The VP, Reserving Innovation & Data, will play a critical role in shaping this function. They will provide technical strategic leadership, champion best data practices, and optimize resource utilization to deliver scalable, high-quality data/analytical solutions. They will be a key member of the Actuarial Reserving and Loss Analytics leadership team helping to advance our data and analytics capacities across the entire team. The VP will have the opportunity to drive the identification and evaluation of the needs of the Reserving team and craft the Reserving Innovation & Data team to elevate reserving innovation at Arch.

Job Responsibilities
  • Partner with Reserving leadership to define and execute a data and analytics strategy that enhances reserving insights, efficiency, and decision-making
  • Own data quality initiatives across the reserving department
  • Support enterprise-wide data initiatives
  • Own and develop strategies to improve the efficiency and analytics of the department as a whole, including ResQ implementation, Reserving process improvements, booking tool development and integration, and more
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Reserving and the IT, Enterprise Data, and related teams
  • Lead and mentor mid-level and junior team members to develop best-in-class solutions that solve complex business challenges in partnership with strategic stakeholders
  • Explore modern technologies and data sources with curiosity and creativity
  • Provide the appropriate documentation of sources and technical solutions
  • Prioritize competing priorities across portfolios and resources
  • Build strong partnerships with peers across the organizationto support strategic goals
  • Continuously advance team capabilities and workflows
Required Skills/Experience
  • 10+ years Property and Casualty experience in Actuarial and/or data related functions
  • 5+ years managing a team
Desired Skills/Experience
  • Demonstrated experience building data expertise and tools to support analytics/research/actuarial functions in an insurance company setting
  • Strong proficiency with SQL as well as Python or other coding language
  • Experience with an orchestration tool like Airflow
  • Experience with cloud technologies like Snowflake
  • Ability to operate independently - managing tasks and engaging people across theteam
  • Exceptional collaboration and relationship building skills
  • Comfortable handling ambiguous concepts and breaking down complex problems into manageable pieces
  • Strong data manipulation skills for analytics
  • Resilient problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for technical and non-technical audiences, including senior executives
  • Flexibility - able to meet changing requirements and priorities
Education
  • College degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, or equivalent

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$200,000 - $250,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
