Job description

This position is available in Wyoming at one of the following locations: Buffalo, Gillette, Sheridan, Douglas and Newcastle.


Summary/Objectives: The SVP of Agriculture/Commercial Lending provides oversight of complex commercial or agricultural credit relationships through underwriting review, approval authority, portfolio risk management, loan servicing oversight, policy development, special assets management, lender training, and implementation of lending systems and procedures while serving as a technical resource to lending staff.

Essential functions:

  • Review complex credit relationships for underwriting quality, risk rating accuracy, policy compliance, and due diligence requirements.
  • Maintain and service a portfolio of complex and problem loan relationships.
  • Monitor and review the servicing, performance, and portfolio quality of large loan relationships. This includes proactive management of past due and problem loans.
  • Approve credit requests within delegated lending authority and present qualifying credit relationships to the Senior Loan Committee (SLC).
  • Provide guidance to lenders on credit structure, underwriting strategy, and risk mitigation for complex lending relationships.
  • Serve as the Special Assets Manager, leading collection efforts, loan workout strategies, and Special Assets Committee activities.
  • Coordinate legal review and legal proceedings related to credit transactions and problem loan relationships, as appropriate.
  • Conduct large loan inspections and if requested will participate in customer meetings involving significant or complex credit relationships.
  • Oversee guaranteed lending programs, ensuring compliance with program requirements and serving as the primary resource for lenders.
  • Coordinate the purchase, sale, participation, and closing of loans within the assigned specialty area.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement lending policies, procedures, loan products, and process improvements that enhance credit quality and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for lending systems and technology, ensuring data integrity, supporting system enhancements, and maximizing operational efficiency.
  • Review and approve employee loan requests beyond Market President approval authority in accordance with bank policy.
  • Design, coordinate, and deliver lender training to promote consistent underwriting practices, policy compliance, and professional development.
  • Collaborate with lending management, Market Presidents, and other departments to ensure consistent credit administration, sound risk management, and achievement of the Bank's lending objectives.
  • Actively participate in customer, community, and public relations activities to increase the bank's visibility and enhance new business opportunities.
  • Additional duties as assigned as they relate to the position.

Competencies:

  • Advanced knowledge of commercial and/or agricultural lending principles, underwriting, and credit administration.
  • Expertise in financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, and credit risk assessment.
  • Strong understanding of loan structuring, collateral evaluation, and complex credit relationships.
  • Thorough knowledge of banking regulations, lending compliance requirements, and internal lending policies.
  • Knowledge of government-guaranteed lending programs and applicable program requirements.

Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Agricultural Business, Economics, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in commercial and/or agricultural lending, credit administration, or portfolio management.
  • Experience with credit policy, loan approvals, regulatory compliance, and loan committee presentations.
  • Experience managing special assets, problem loans, and loan workout strategies preferred.
  • Experience with government-guaranteed lending programs preferred.
  • Experience implementing lending systems and process improvements preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, certifications, and related banking experience may be considered.

Supervisory:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities currently, however, does serve as a direct mentor for other positions in the organization.
