Job description

Position: Area Vice President (South)

Location: Atlanta, GA

Eligible candidates must reside within the South Region (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Southern Illinois, Western Tennessee, Greater St. Louis area) and have convenient access to a major commercial airport as frequent travel across the region is required.

Job Summary: The Area Vice President of Sales will lead regional field sales activities for Biodesix products, including direct selling to physicians and strategic selling to large practices and practice aggregators. The role requires strong operational capabilities, the ability to adapt tactics, absorb new clinical data, manage and coach a sales team, and engage with both clinicians and business managers.

Responsibilities
  • Structure detailed strategic plans for gaining and retaining new and existing clients
  • Manage regional product sales team to ensure all sales goals are met and company revenue and customer service objectives are achieved
  • Partner with strategic marketing, medical affairs, and reimbursement to ensure maximum account penetration
  • Continuously analyze competitive landscape and environment to determine trends and provide customer feedback to the Vice President of Sales
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive business plan for each product by territory, including personnel, budgets, travel, training, territory management, and goal setting
  • Work effectively with individuals across multiple departments throughout Biodesix
  • Represent the Biodesix company culture to external and internal constituents
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
Leadership Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for the function or division of the organization
  • Lead leaders and high‑performing teams to achieve long‑term organizational goals
  • Oversee talent and culture strategies, including organizational design and change management
  • Represent the function of executive decision‑making and cross‑functional initiatives
Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of life sciences and molecular diagnostics for oncology and the evolving competitive landscape
  • Excellent knowledge of oncology, hematology, chemotherapeutics and targeted agents
  • Ability to maintain an outstanding level of market, customer, distribution and product knowledge necessary to accomplish sales and marketing objectives
  • Ability to build and transform a sales team
  • Outstanding strategic sales account planning skills
  • Superior listening and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to provide an integrated molecular diagnostic solution using Biodesix products to customers
  • Comfortable selling at the executive level (CEO, COO, CFO)
  • Keen understanding of the payor and reimbursement environment in oncology and diagnostics
  • Excellent negotiation and customer service skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain a very high level of confidentiality
  • Positive attitude and understanding of organizational growth and change dynamics
  • Impeccable oral and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Effective and regular cross‑functional communication and cooperation
  • Effective and regular utilization and optimization of Salesforce.com and other sales metrics
  • Problem‑solving, decision‑making and technical learning
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Strong administrative skills and sophistication to manage business in complex and changing environments
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (SharePoint, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • B.S. in life science, biology, business or marketing – MBA preferred
  • 10‑15 years of direct sales management experience in a life sciences and/or molecular diagnostic setting with a proven record of meeting and exceeding expectations
  • Demonstrated measurable revenue generation at either a diagnostic, pharmaceutical or relevant biotechnology company
