Veterinary Assistant | $15.00-$17.00/hr starting
Location: Pensacola, FL
Schedule: Full-Time | Three 12-hour shifts per week | Friday - Sunday | 7am - 7pm or 8am - 8pm
The Veterinary Emergency Referral Center (VERC) is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our Emergency team in Pensacola, Florida. This is a great opportunity for a Veterinary Assistant who enjoys emergency medicine, hands-on patient care, and working alongside a collaborative team dedicated to providing exceptional care for pets and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Provide compassionate, high-quality patient care in a fast-paced emergency and specialty hospital environment.
  • Assist Veterinary Technicians and doctors with patient treatments, procedures, and daily nursing care.
  • Perform safe patient restraint and assist with obtaining diagnostic imaging, including radiographs.
  • Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery under the direction of veterinary team members.
  • Provide care for hospitalized patients, including cleaning, feeding, walking, and monitoring patient comfort.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment areas, equipment, and supplies to support efficient patient care.
  • Assist with surgical procedures, including instrument preparation, sterilization, wrapping, and storage.
  • Maintain excellent aseptic technique and follow proper cleaning and sterilization procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members regarding patient care and hospital needs.
  • Support a positive, collaborative team environment focused on exceptional patient outcomes.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year of Veterinary Assistant experience required; emergency or specialty veterinary experience preferred.
  • Understanding of basic veterinary assistant skills, including patient restraint, radiology support, anesthesia assistance, and patient care.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, surgical instruments, aseptic technique, sterilization processes, and instrument handling preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a high-volume emergency environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and veterinary team members.
  • Ability to remain calm, organized, and compassionate in stressful situations.
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills are required for this role. Fluency in multiple languages is a plus.
