Job Description & Responsibilities

We're seeking a highly skilled Field Application Engineer to join our growing team.  As a member of the Field Operations Department, you will be working at our Fort Collins, CO office. You will be responsible for supporting all field operations, including internal and external engineering demonstrations, development testing, assisting with systems integrations, providing on and off-site customer support, customer trainings, and building relationships with prospective clients. We are looking for skilled engineers who enjoy being in the field and working with our customers. You will be working with the most sophisticated customers in the wireless communications industry, including 3-letter government agencies, federal and local law enforcement, mainstream media outlets and international commercial companies.

Position Responsibilities 

  • Traveling to test locations and customer sites to directly support the testing, evaluation, and deployment of the Wave Relay system
  • Supporting project execution in the deployment and support phases as technical specialist
  • Conducting development testing on new and existing Wave Relay products
  • Creating diagrams and documentation for specific engineering solutions and customer requirements
  • Completing engineering tasks such as defining requirements, supporting design efforts, developing acceptance test plans, and data analysis.
  • Developing technical expertise of the Wave Relay suite of products
  • Supporting the sales force in technical analysis and solution design during the business development phase of the project
  • Interpreting written customer requirements and technical specification documents
  • Providing necessary technical documentation for suppliers, customers and internal use
  • Providing technical advice to management on strategic or project issues
  • Screening of the market segment including key customers and competitors on and ongoing basis
  • Interacting with customers and providing direct technical support 
  • Assisting customers in integrating other systems, sensors, and components with the Wave Relay systems 
  • Conducting onsite and offsite Wave Relay training courses
  • Participating in meetings for customer employment of Wave Relay systems
Job Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • CompTia Net+ and Security+ certifications
  • Knowledge of radio frequencies (RFs) and wireless communications
  • Experience working with customers and as part of a team with remote members
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Must be willing and able to travel 50% of the time 
  • Must have a United States security clearance or the ability to obtain a United States Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical degree (preferably in Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering, or other discipline with focus on system integration) or equivalent experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Mobile Ad hoc Networking 
  • Proven experience writing reports and building test plans
  • Experience performing consultative, solutions-based design and implementation for clients
  • Experience conducting training from a formalized lesson plan 
  • Experience resolving issues at the lowest level as a customer liaison 
  • Experience providing customer feedback, conducting student evaluations, and internal reporting
  • Keen awareness of the wireless industry and developing communications trends
  • Ability to work under time pressure with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and presentation skills

Physical requirements for the role include:

  • May need to navigate rough terrain, climb ladders, or work in physically demanding conditions with exposure to extreme temperatures or noise.
  • Stamina and endurance: FAEs often spend a lot of time on their feet, visiting customer sites, attending trade shows, conducting demonstrations, and traveling for work.
  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods: FAEs often spend significant time at trade shows, in front of computers, writing reports, analyzing data, and communicating with clients.
  • Ability to lift and carry moderate weight: This could involve carrying equipment, tools, or product samples to and from customer sites. Some roles might require lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders: Accessing different areas of customer facilities might involve stairs and ladders.
  • Good hand-eye coordination: This is important for tasks like setting up equipment, performing demonstrations, troubleshooting technical issues, and performing repairs.

The base pay for this role can vary from $106,000 to $133,000 a year based on the selected individual's education and experience.
