Job description

Make a Difference When It Matters Most.

At Emergency Veterinary Care Centers (EVCC), we show up for pets and the people who love them on some of their hardest days.

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy working as part of a team, and want to make a meaningful impact every shift — this could be your place.

Who We Are

EVCC was created by veterinarians, for veterinarians — and for the communities they serve. Founded by 36 local general practice veterinarians (many still actively involved today), we were built to support the veterinary community, not compete with it.

Our Highland hospital is our second location, and we are proud to bring trusted, emergency-only care to the region.

But what truly defines EVCC isn't just what we do — it's how we do it.

WE

  • Lead with compassion
  • Respect and elevate our technicians
  • Support each other without ego
  • Communicate openly and professionally
  • Recognize that emergency medicine is demanding — and take care of our team because of it
What Life Is Like at EVCC

We genuinely care about whoever walks through our doors — whether it's a critical patient, an anxious pet parent, or a teammate who needs support during a tough shift.

Emergency medicine is intense. It's emotional. It's unpredictable.

But it's also deeply meaningful.

You won't be "just an assistant" here. Your assessment skills, instincts, and voice matter. Our doctors value collaboration. Our leadership team listens. Growth is encouraged, not gatekept.

Your Role as an Experienced Veterinary Assistant (Overnight)

As a Veterinary Assistant at our Mishawaka location, you'll be a crucial part of our emergency team. You'll support veterinary technicians and veterinarians by assisting with patient care, maintaining hospital cleanliness, and ensuring the hospital is stocked and ready for every emergency.

You'll interact with pets and clients directly, creating positive experiences even during stressful situations, and help ensure every shift runs smoothly.

What You'll Do
  • Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with patient handling and restraint
  • Clean and sanitize exam rooms, treatment areas, and kennels according to hospital protocols
  • Maintain cleanliness of hospital equipment, instruments, and laundry
  • Feed, walk, and provide general care for hospitalized patients
  • Monitor patient comfort and report changes in condition to the medical team
  • Restock supplies in exam rooms, treatment areas, and inventory stations
  • Perform basic administrative tasks such as trash removal, laundry, and restocking
  • Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and hospital improvement initiatives
  • Provide empathetic, positive experiences for clients and patients at all times
This role requires confidence, resilience, and heart.Who Thrives Here

What You'll Need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or in animal care (kennel, shelter, pet boarding, etc.) preferred but not required
  • Ability to safely and compassionately handle animals of all sizes and temperaments
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, emergency environment
  • Availability for evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods
How We Invest In You

We believe people do their best work when they feel valued and supported.

WE OFFER

  • Competitive compensation (depending on experience) including base and 401K match
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits that start on day one
  • Flexible work schedules to support your life outside of work
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) because we truly believe in TREAT YOUR SELF mentality
  • Generous employee referral program, so our awesome people can bring in more awesome people
  • A BIG focus on learning and growing, we offer a continuing education (CE) allowance, so we are always delivering state of the art medicine to our patients
  • Mentorship and real career growth opportunities
  • And the little (big) things, like comfy scrubs and cool EVCC swag
If You're Looking For…

A hospital where:

  • Your work is appreciated and impactful
  • Your growth is supported
  • Your team has your back
  • Every day brings meaningful work with pets and people

We'd love to meet you.
