Job description

Hospital Name: Seven Oaks Veterinary Clinic

Job Type: Veterinary Extern

Description & Requirements

We are a small practice that has a loyal client following of being established in the community for many years. For an extern, the work is interesting as we see exotics and have a very experienced staff to learn from. Our MDVM loves to teach and is a good mentor. She works with the zoo in South Bend and is part of the community here in Plymouth.

We can offer a good environment for hands-on learning and provide valuable experience to any extern. We have a great culture and aspire to treat our clients' pets the way treat our own pets.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Seven Oaks Veterinary Clinic are designed for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students.

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
