Title: Vessel Mechanic
Location: Lettsworth, LA
Classification: Full Time
Employment Type: Exempt
Position Summary:
Terral RiverService, Inc. is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper functioning and maintenance of machinery and equipment for Terral's inland line and fleet boats. The Mechanic will play a crucial role in minimizing downtime, optimizing operational efficiency, and contributing to the overall success of our organization. This position reports to the Port Engineer.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Record and maintain engineering logs, such as speed and direction change orders and gauge readings.
  • Carryout services and minor repairs on vessels and equipment
  • Communicate concerns & job-related issues to the Port Engineer and Captain.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Basic requirements:
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC.
  • General knowledge of marine equipment, engines, and boat systems is preferred.
  • MUST be self-motivated, organized, and detail oriented.
  • Communicate well in both written & verbal form.
  • Capable of managing time effectively & multi-tasking as necessary.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work various hours/holidays/weekends.

Physical Requirements
  • The employee must meet physical requirements including but not limited to, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing up/down ladders and stairs, negotiating uneven and moving surfaces.
  • Must be able to work in difficult conditions with exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, wind, heat, etc.)
  • Must be comfortable working aboard boats and barges.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work at protected heights up to 40 feet.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
