Job description

Perform duties to grind a wide variety of tools, plan and construct prototype products, construct, modify and repair a wide variety of tools, jigs, fixtures, and special holding devices for the tool room.

Work from complex blueprints, drawings, sketches, specifications, models, and verbal instructions to:

Rotate between constructing prototypes and making tools on a regular basis to meet production scheduling priorities.

Perform the required planning and laying out of work to very close tolerances for various types of tool room operations.

Determine equipment required, operating sequences.

Set up department equipment, such as but not limited to internal, external, surface, universal, and special purpose grinders, lathes, mills, drill presses, and heat-treating equipment involving complex to very unusual setups.

Devise temporary or special tooling, holding devices, and precision gauges to meet varying conditions.

Perform complex machining operations and bench work involving filing, grinding, felting, and assembly in the construction and alteration of prototype models and piece parts for the company's product lines of hydraulic and pneumatic valves.

Check and test tools as necessary.

Identify and recommend changes to tool and product design to facilitate fabrication/operation.

Record production and maintain accurate time records.

Use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments and hand-to-hand power tools.

Follow safety rules and keep work area in clean and orderly condition. Perform other related duties as assigned and support ISO 9000 requirements.
