Vertical Farm Manager information

What does a vertical farm manager do?

A Vertical Farm Manager oversees the daily operations of a vertical farming facility, which grows crops in stacked layers, often using hydroponic or aeroponic systems. Their responsibilities include managing planting schedules, monitoring plant health, optimizing resource use (like water, nutrients, and light), supervising staff, and ensuring the facility meets production goals and safety standards. They also often handle inventory, data analysis, and may work on implementing new technologies to improve efficiency and yield. This role requires knowledge of horticulture, technology, and business management.

What are some common challenges vertical farm managers face in day-to-day operations?

Vertical Farm Managers often encounter challenges such as maintaining optimal environmental conditions, managing energy consumption, and troubleshooting automation systems. Balancing crop health with resource efficiency requires close monitoring and quick decision-making. Additionally, they may need to address supply chain issues, coordinate with technicians, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability are essential for success in this dynamic work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a vertical farm manager, and why are they important?

To succeed as a Vertical Farm Manager, you need expertise in horticulture or agriculture, experience in controlled environment agriculture (CEA), and often a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with hydroponic or aeroponic systems, climate control technologies, and farm management software is typically required. Strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help manage teams and ensure smooth operations. These skills are crucial for optimizing crop yields, maintaining efficient production, and adapting to evolving agricultural technologies.

Our white-label SaaS solution, Sponsor Direct, provides real estate firms with their own fundraising and investor management portal integrated into their website. Our Marketplace is the #1 direct-to-investor commercial real estate marketplace in the U.S. We currently manage $2.6 B in real estate value through our platform and we are experiencing hockey stick growth. We're targeting 250% annual revenue growth and need smart, capable employees to continue our momentum. CrowdStreet is well funded from Bay Area VC firms with a very healthy balance sheet. We welcome you to join our team.

To support our company's rapid growth, we are hiring an Account Executive with a proven track record of success selling technology solutions into the real estate or finance industries. This position is based at our Portland headquarters and reports to our Director of Sales.

What You'll Be Doing

As an Account Executive, you will be responsible selling our SaaS and Marketplace solutions to commercial real estate investment managers (sponsors) within your designated territory.

Our customers are private real estate investment firms, so the more understanding you have of how they think, act and invest, the better prepared you will be to succeed in a sales position at CrowdStreet. The entire online investing for private real estate industry is new, so you will need to be an effective education-based sales person with the ability to compel them to purchase...traditional closing skills still matter. Our solution is complex, so you have to be very intelligent with the ability to continuously pivot your value-proposition based on your buyer's needs.

You will be partnered with a Sales Development Rep for your territory, yet it's your ultimate responsibility to build a strong pipeline of opportunities in Salesforce.com and work your prospects aggressively. Given the enormous market opportunity, It's becoming a competitive field, so you need the ability to consult with the buyer, build trust & rapport and ultimately convince them that CrowdStreet is the ultimate partner to help them execute their online fundraising strategy.  You will be responsible for a quarterly quota and will have uncapped earning potential.

Real estate is a relationship-based business, so your job does not end after your first sale is closed. You will continue to nurture accounts in your territory to farm for new business within existing customer accounts. Fortunately, many of our customers are repeat customers, so you'll have ample add-on and cross-sell opportunities.

This is an inside sales role, yet you will travel to your territory on an as-needed basis to meet customers and grow your network in territory.
