What is a venture capital intern?

Venture Capital Interns are typically students or recent graduates who work at venture capital firms to gain hands-on experience in the investment industry. Their responsibilities often include conducting market research, analyzing startup business models, assisting with due diligence, and preparing investment memos. Interns may also attend meetings with entrepreneurs, support portfolio companies, and help identify promising startups for investment. The internship offers valuable insights into how venture capital firms evaluate and fund early-stage companies. It is often a stepping stone for careers in finance, startups, or venture capital.

What does a venture capital intern do?

As a Venture Capital Intern, you'll often assist with sourcing and evaluating potential investment opportunities, which includes conducting market research, preparing due diligence reports, and analyzing startup business models. You may also help with portfolio management tasks such as tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) of portfolio companies and preparing updates for partners or investors. Job description

About ICONIQ Human Capital

The Human Capital team at ICONIQ is dedicated to attracting, developing, and retaining exceptional talent. We partner closely with business leaders to foster a high-performance culture rooted in ICONIQ's values. Our work spans talent acquisition, talent development, people operations, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness. We are committed to delivering a best-in-class employee experience and enabling our teams to thrive.

The Opportunity: Senior Associate, Talent Acquisition

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recruiter to join our Talent Acquisition team, supporting ICONIQ's Venture and Growth businesses. This individual will serve as a trusted talent advisor to investment professionals and business leaders, leading full-cycle recruiting efforts across a broad range of functions.

The Senior Associate will be responsible for managing lateral hiring across Venture & Growth teams, including Portfolio Engagement, Operations, and Support teams, as well as playing a critical role in early-career investment hiring programs, including intern, Analyst, and Associate recruiting.

This role requires a combination of strategic talent partnership and exceptional execution. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable advising senior stakeholders on market strategy, managing highly competitive candidate processes, coordinating complex recruiting logistics, and ensuring a best-in-class candidate experience. The ideal candidate will bring prior experience recruiting within Venture Capital, Growth Equity, or Private Equity environments and possess a strong understanding of investment recruiting cycles, including Investment Analyst and Associate recruiting.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Lead full-cycle recruiting across Venture & Growth investment and business functions, from intake through to offer, managing multiple high-priority searches at one time.
  • Manage annual investment intern and Analyst recruiting programs, including university and student organization relationships, candidate sourcing and assessment, offers, and stakeholder communication.
  • Drive Venture & Growth Investment Associate hiring, partnering closely with business stakeholders and external recruiting partners to execute sourcing strategies, candidate engagement, recruiting events, interviews, weekly stakeholder meetings, and hiring decisions.
  • Partner closely with investment professionals and business leaders, as a trusted advisor, translating hiring needs into tailored recruiting strategies and providing market intelligence, talent insights, and recommendations.
  • Build and maintain high-quality talent pipelines leveraging external search partners, direct sourcing, networking, referrals, and market mapping to identify exceptional talent.
  • Manage external search firms and agency relationships, ensuring quality, efficiency, and alignment with ICONIQ standards.
  • Deliver a high-touch recruiting experience and operational excellence, ensuring proactive candidate and stakeholder communication, accurate recruiting data and reporting, and continuous improvement of recruiting processes in partnership with Human Capital colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in full-cycle recruiting, with significant experience supporting Venture Capital, Growth Equity, Private Equity, or broader investment or financial services organizations.
  • Direct experience managing investment hiring processes, including familiarity with Investment Analyst and Associate recruiting cycles as well as demonstrated success recruiting across both investment and business functions.
  • Strong talent advisory and stakeholder management skills with the ability to partner effectively with senior leaders and high-performing teams while translating business needs into recruiting strategies.
  • Expertise in candidate sourcing, market mapping, and talent assessment, with a demonstrated ability to identify and engage high-caliber talent.
  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent searches and competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong executive presence.
  • Exceptional organizational and execution skills, with the ability to autonomously manage multiple concurrent searches, competing priorities, and detailed recruiting operations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with strong executive presence, a highly collaborative approach, and curiosity about leveraging AI and emerging technologies to improve recruiting workflows and productivity.

What We Offer:

  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance starting on your first day of employment.
  • Life and disability insurance coverage as well as family and wellness benefits including mental health benefits, fertility benefits, and back-up childcare.
  • A matching 401(k) program.
  • Commuter Benefits program.
  • Stipends to support wellness and hybrid working arrangements.
  • We support employees who wish to pursue professional designations/certifications and offer tuition reimbursement in addition to an allocation for books and other supplies needed for an individual's coursework.
  • Smart-casual dress code.

Location: Applicants are expected to work onsite in our San Francisco, CA office in accordance with our hybrid working policy.

Compensation Range: ICONIQ is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role, together with other compensation being offered such as a discretionary bonus, health insurance, and other perks. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At ICONIQ, we apply a total reward philosophy where all aspects of compensation and benefits are taken into consideration in determining compensation terms. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $160,000.00- $190,000.00 together with the benefits listed above.
