Job Description:
At Regions, the Environmental Review Manager takes responsibility for a team of analysts and the environmental risk function of the bank which addresses environmental concerns from both an underwriting and liability standpoint.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Provides thorough reviews of environmental data supplied in connection with loan transactions, property under trust management, pending foreclosures, workouts, corporate trust management related to bond transactions, equity positions and investment banking transactions, and the potential acquisitions of financial institutions
  • Provides guidance to other departments on specific transactions as to the structure of the transactions, the relative value of the collateral, the potential costs to the borrower of complying with environmental laws and regulations (both in terms of cleanup costs and anticipated capital expenditures), appropriate workout or foreclosure strategies, and the appropriate handling of remediation projects conducted on properties owned or managed by the bank
  • Serves as responsible party in certifying extent of known environmental liability for bank reporting purposes, as required by Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX)
  • Approves credits of non-R/E secured transactions in high risk industries
  • Provides advice, guidance, and approval to credit and the Line of Business on the appropriate structure of environmentally sensitive transactions and the bank's policies and procedures on a one-to-one basis
  • Controls costs attributable to loan loss and excessive environmental consulting costs through appropriate environmental risk management procedures
  • Develops critical reviews of qualifications of environmental consultants seeking to be placed on the bank's approved consultants list and independently determines if a consultant is qualified to do work for the bank or its customers
  • Provides a resource during due diligence activities conducted in contemplation of acquiring other institutions including, but not limited to, review of environmental data from due diligence activities
  • Conducts training sessions for all areas of the bank affected by environmental issues
  • Serves as Vendor Relationship Owner (VRO) for the environmental risk function and its respective vendors
  • Manages the business continuity process for Environmental Risk Management in Archer
  • Maintains and manages the RSCA in Archer
  • Offers advice and guidance to a team of analysts, assisting in the development of necessary skills and promotion of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborates with team to ensure goals and objectives are challenging yet attainable and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborates with senior management in developing auditing procedures to monitor departmental activities and processes
  • Ensures all departmental activities comply with internal and external policies and regulations

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
This position is incentive eligible.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Science or equivalent
  • Eight (8) years of experience conducting or performing critical reviews of environmental assessments
  • Three (3) years of supervisory/management experience, specifically in an environmental risk function

  • Credit evaluation experience

Pay ranges are job specific and are provided as a point-of-market reference for compensation decisions. Other factors which directly impact pay for individual associates include: experience, skills, knowledge, contribution, job location and, most importantly, performance in the job role. As these factors vary by individuals, pay will also vary among individual associates within the same job.
The target information listed below is based on the Metropolitan Statistical Area Market Range for where the position is located and level of the position.
