What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Vehicle Wrap Installer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Vehicle Wrap Installer, you need a solid understanding of vinyl materials, precise measuring and cutting skills, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with tools such as heat guns, squeegees, plotters, and graphic design software like Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW is typically required, along with certifications from wrap training programs being advantageous. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, problem-solving, and effective communication with clients help installers stand out. These skills ensure high-quality, durable installations that meet client expectations and maintain the reputation of the business.

What are some common challenges faced by vehicle wrap installers during a typical project?

Vehicle wrap installers often encounter challenges such as ensuring precise alignment of the vinyl materials, working around complex curves and contours of different vehicle models, and avoiding air bubbles or wrinkles during application. Weather conditions and dust can also impact the quality of the installation, requiring careful preparation of both the workspace and the vehicle surface. Effective communication and coordination with designers, sales teams, and clients are crucial to ensure the final wrap meets expectations and is delivered on schedule.

What is vehicle wrap installation?

Vehicle wrap installation is the process of applying a large vinyl graphic or decal onto the surface of a vehicle. This can cover the entire car or just specific parts, such as the hood or doors, for advertising, branding, or aesthetic purposes. Professional installers carefully clean and prep the surface, then use specialized tools to ensure a smooth, bubble-free finish. The wrap can be removed or changed without damaging the original paint, making it a flexible option for both businesses and individuals.

Job description

KINGDOM SIGNS AND GRAPHICS

Vehicle Wrap Installer & Sign Production

$24$30/hour, depending on experience and certifications
About Kingdom Signs and Graphics
Kingdom Signs and Graphics is a growing sign and graphics shop building a team of A-players who care about their craft. We are hiring an experienced vehicle wrap installer who wants a long-term home in a shop that will invest in them and grow with them. We work hard, we do work we are proud of, and we treat our people right.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a skilled wrap installer to join our team. We are open to either part-time or full-time, depending on the right person:
Part-time: focused on vehicle wrap installs, with flexible scheduling we will build around you.
Full-time: same install work, plus broader production responsibilities such as vinyl plotting and weeding, laminating, substrate prep, helping with sign and decal installs, and supporting the shop wherever you are needed.
Either way, this is a place to plant roots. As we grow, you grow into lead installer, production lead, project manager, or whatever direction lights you up. We promote from within and we mean it.
What You Will Do
Install full and partial vehicle wraps on commercial vehicles, fleet trucks, vans, trailers, and box trucks
Apply printed wrap vinyl, cut vinyl lettering and graphics, perforated window vinyl, and reflective films
Cut, knife, seam, and bridge panels cleanly across body lines, recesses, door handles, mirrors, and bumpers
Seam vinyl together for long runs (trailers, box trucks, etc.) with tight, clean overlaps
Prep vehicle surfaces properly: wash, decontaminate, dry, and inspect before installation
Post-heat and edge-seal per 3M / Avery / manufacturer spec for long-term durability
Read work orders, lay out designs, and verify color, size, and file accuracy before installation
Maintain a clean, organized install bay; care for tools, heat guns, IR thermometers, and squeegees
Communicate professionally with the team and occasionally with customers at delivery
On full-time: support sign and decal production (vinyl plotting/weeding, laminating, panel cutting, install support)
Other sign fabrication as needed by shop (CNC operation, large panel cutting, sign assembly etc.)
What You Bring
35 years of hands-on experience installing commercial vehicle wraps
Proficient with cast and calendared vinyl, overlaminates, and printed wrap media
Skilled at cutting, knifing, seaming, and bridging across body lines and recesses
3M Preferred Installer certification, Avery Certified Wrap Installer, or equivalent professional certification (strongly preferred)
For the right candidate without a current cert, we will consider sponsoring 3M training
A portfolio of past work photos required with your application
23 professional references
Valid driver's license; comfortable safely moving customer vehicles around the shop
Reliable, punctual, and able to manage your own time when working a flexible schedule
Eligible to work in the U.S.
Physical Requirements
Comfortable on your feet for long stretches
Able to lift up to ~50 lbs.
Able to work in awkward positions (kneeling, reaching overhead, working under and around vehicles)
Comfortable using ladders and step stools
Steady hands and good close-up vision for detailed work
Who You Are
An A-player mindset hungry, coachable, and proud of your work
Detail-obsessed; you do not leave a bubble, lifted edge, or crooked seam behind
A team player who lifts the people around you
Curious and always learning new techniques, materials, and best practices
Someone looking for a long-term home, not just another gig
Why Kingdom Signs and Graphics

A growing shop with real room to grow into whatever role excites you
Investment in your craft including potential 3M training sponsorship for the right candidate
A team that values quality, integrity, and treating people right
Competitive pay: $24$30/hour depending on experience and certifications
Flexible scheduling for part-time; broader responsibilities and growth path for full-time

1. A short note about yourself and why you would be a good fit
2. Photos of 510 wraps you have personally installed (close-ups of seams, recesses, and edges are appreciated)
