What is vehicle relocation?

Vehicle relocation is the process of moving cars or other vehicles from one location to another, often for dealerships, rental companies, or private clients. People working in vehicle relocation may drive vehicles across states, deliver cars to customers, or transport fleets between branches. This job requires attention to detail, safe driving skills, and sometimes logistical planning to ensure timely and secure delivery. It can be a good fit for those who enjoy travel and working independently.

What are vehicle relocation jobs?

Vehicle relocation jobs involve working to transport vehicles from one place to another. In these jobs, you may be responsible for shipping new cars to a dealership, returning rental cars to a rental agency, or moving fleet vehicles between business locations. In some cases, you deliver a personal vehicle to an owner after they move to a new place. Your responsibilities can vary depending on the type of auto relocation in which you specialize. In addition to driving the vehicle, your duties include documenting delivery and recording variables like mileage.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a vehicle relocation specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Vehicle Relocation Specialist, you need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and knowledge of transportation regulations. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, vehicle inspection tools, and scheduling software is typically required. Strong attention to detail, time management, and customer service skills help ensure efficient and damage-free vehicle transfers. These skills are crucial for ensuring safe, timely, and professional relocation of vehicles for clients or businesses.

What are some common challenges faced in a vehicle relocation role, and how can they be effectively managed?

In a vehicle relocation role, common challenges include coordinating logistics across multiple locations, meeting tight delivery deadlines, and ensuring the safe handling of vehicles during transport. Weather conditions, route changes, and last-minute schedule adjustments can also impact daily operations. Effective communication with dispatch, attention to detail, and flexibility are key to managing these challenges successfully. Team members often collaborate closely to solve problems and keep relocations running smoothly.

Job Title: Logistics Specialist
Job Description
The Logistics Specialist oversees the end-to-end execution of customer vehicle relocation orders and supports all related business operations. This role focuses on order management, precise scheduling, and coordination of vehicle pickups, deliveries, and additional services, while maintaining accurate information in the CRM system. • Optimize efficiency by linking multiple orders where appropriate to streamline operations.
  • Oversee accurate and timely completion of additional services such as vehicle detailing, titling and registration, and placement of vehicles into storage.
  • Communicate promptly and professionally by email, telephone, and CRM with internal staff, independent contractors, and pickup and delivery contacts, escalating issues to management when necessary.
  • Update CRM activities and notes immediately after each call or email, including uploading photos and scanned documents, and creating and completing tasks to maintain accurate, time-sensitive records.
  • Ensure all work complies with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable DOT regulations and all relevant federal, state, and local laws.
  • In the manager's absence or at the manager's direction, calculate and offer flat fees on orders by preparing and emailing bid sheets to independent contractors.

  • Check vehicles into and out of the storage facility, reviewing and documenting any damage or issues.
  • Take inventory of items left inside vehicles and document them appropriately.
  • Move vehicles in and out of the lot safely, bringing vehicles into the secure lot when drivers drop them off and staging vehicles for drivers to pick up.
  • Perform regular inventory checks to account for all vehicles on the lot.
  • Confirm that vehicles start and operate as expected, and communicate any issues to headquarters so they can be addressed before vehicles are reactivated.
  • Adhere to organizational goals and objectives in daily work.
  • Demonstrate open, effective communication and teamwork with colleagues and independent contractors.
