Overview: 
This Finance Intern position at Veeco Instruments will report to the Manager of Corporate Finance. This role can be performed in a hybrid or remote capacity; however, candidates who live within commuting distance of Veeco's Plainview, NY, office and are able to work onsite 1-2 days per week are highly preferred. Under the supervision of the Manager, the Finance Intern will execute audits of employee travel and expense (T&E) submissions using the Company's automated T&E system, Chrome River. The Finance Intern will interact directly with employees across the organization as part of the T&E compliance program. In addition, the Finance Intern will support month-end close activities by preparing bank reconciliations and journal entries.
 
Ideal candidates are proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to expand beyond basic administrative tasks into broader accounting and finance responsibilities.The intern will work closely with the Manager of Corporate Finance and will have the opportunity to develop auditing, analytic, and communication skills. 
 
Local candidates are highly preferred.
 

Duration:

  • Part-time employment during the Fall & Spring semesters (15-20 hours a week on a flexible schedule)
  • Full-time employment during the Summer & Winter breaks (40 hours a week)   
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Support Travel & Entertainment (T&E) auditing. 
  • Work daily in the Company's web-based IT solution for T&E management, Chrome River, to audit reports and assist users with issues. 
  • Ensure compliance to the Company's T&E policy through the use of audit tools and programs. 
  • Create reports, prepare analyses, and report results of various work activities. 
  • Maintain professional relationships with external service providers. 
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations 
  • Prepare and posts recurring journal entries and monthly accruals 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
 
Qualifications: 
  • Must be at least a Sophomore enrolled in an Accounting or Finance program with at least an overall G.P.A. of 3.2 (or equivalent) 
  • Strong MicrosoftExcel/Word skills required 
  • Full time (40hrs) during the summer/winter breaks and flexible schedule with 15-20hours during the school year. 
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills 
  • Candidates who are local to Plainview, NY are highly preferred
  • Remote candidates who reside within Eastern Time Zone, will be considered.

Salary and Benefits 
The expected pay for this position is $20/hour.
