Vector Control information

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a vector control?

A typical day in Vector Control involves identifying and monitoring potential breeding sites for disease-carrying pests, applying pesticides in targeted areas, and documenting inspections and treatments conducted. You may also collect and analyze field data, educate community members about prevention strategies, and collaborate with public health officials or environmental agencies. Fieldwork is common, and you will often work both independently and as part of a team to ensure effective pest management. The role can require flexibility as priorities may shift seasonally or in response to local outbreaks, making adaptive problem-solving an important aspect of the job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in vector control?

To thrive in Vector Control, you need a background in pest management, public health, or biological sciences, often complemented by relevant certifications or training in mosquito and rodent control. Familiarity with GIS mapping tools, pesticide application equipment, and state/local regulatory systems is typically required. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills for success in this field. These competencies ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant implementation of vector control measures to protect public health.

What is a vector control?

A Vector Control job involves managing and reducing populations of disease-carrying organisms like mosquitoes, rodents, and other pests. Professionals in this field conduct inspections, apply treatments, educate the public, and enforce health regulations to prevent the spread of diseases such as malaria, dengue, and West Nile virus. They often work for public health departments or pest management agencies. The role may include fieldwork, data collection, and using biological or chemical control methods.

Job description

Long Wall Company was created in 2024 to accelerate missile defense technology for the U.S. and our allies. Building on the RS1 and GS0 launch systems, Long Wall develops containerized, mass-producible missile defense systems and offers rapid, low-cost flight testing. We believe that the future of global security and stability require defensive technology that is lower cost, higher performing, better tested, and more broadly distributed than is possible today. Join us.
What we look for
Mission-Driven Problem Solvers. The aerospace frontier demands ingenuity. We want Team members who approach challenges with curiosity, embrace failure as a learning opportunity, and stay focused on delivering the best solution for the mission.
Total Ownership. We seek staff and engineers who take full responsibility for contributing to and delivering flight-ready work while recognizing that no one succeeds alone. The best engineers, corporate professionals, and technicians make their teammates better. Knowing that complementary skills create force multiplication and drive mission success.
Sr. GNC Engineer
As a Senior GNC Engineer, you will help design and implement robust control solutions for both endo- and exo-atmospheric flight systems. You'll work closely with a cross-functional team of mechanical, fluid, and electrical engineers to develop innovative, deployable launch platforms that support Long Wall's rapid-deployment goals.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute across the full development lifecycle-from modeling and simulation to integration and flight testing. Your work will directly impact every mission and flight, playing a critical part in shaping the future of responsive missile defense systems.

  • Develop GNC algorithms, models and software
  • Develop, analyze and review data to validate and verify system meets specifications and design requirements
  • Perform modeling and simulation tasks to validate system design and performance
  • Perform GNC system integration, checkout and troubleshooting of anomalies
  • Perform and direct test planning, development of test procedures and test execution
  • Develop sensor and support Avionics systems requirements
  • Support critical sensor (e.g. IMU) system engineering, integration and test
  • Support critical controller (e.g. Thrust Vector Control Actuators, Throttle Valves) system engineering, integration and test
  • Mission specific analysis for customer launch and in support of business development
  • Perform "Hardware in the Loop" (HITL) testing/simulation prior to launch on both testbed and integrated launch vehicle

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • B.S. degree from an accredited university
  • 6+ years of experience in the development of aircraft, missile, spacecraft, or similar vehicle GNC system

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:

  • Proficiency in modeling, simulation, and analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink)
  • Experience developing and validating GNC algorithms, models, and flight software
  • Strong understanding of control theory, vehicle dynamics, and trajectory analysis
  • Ability to plan and execute test campaigns, including integration, checkout, and troubleshooting

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:
  • M.S. or PhD degree from an accredited university
  • Demonstrated skills in modeling, simulation, and analysis software such as MATLAB/Simulink and experience in at least one or more high-level programming languages (e.g., C, C++, or FORTRAN)
  • Experience developing terminal engagement algorithms
  • Experience with hypersonic flight regime control systems
  • Proficiency in trajectory planning/design and optimization algorithms or tools (e.g., POST2)
  • Day of launch or on-orbit systems support, including launch limits and loads/GNC capabilities evaluation
