Job description

Job Title: Equity Research Associate - Cardiology, Pulmonary & Endocrine
Reports to: Sr. Equity Research Analyst
Department: Equity Research
Location: New York
Salary Range: $110,000-$150,000
We are seeking a highly talented individual to add significant value to our equity research team. This individual will work directly with a Senior Managing Director to assist in preparing and executing analyses of specific areas within biotechnology, with a focus on commercial and clinical stage companies across a range of therapy areas: cardiology, pulmonary, endocrine, radiopharmaceuticals. The ideal candidate will have an innovative mindset, relentless intellectual curiosity, passion for biotech innovation and the stock market, and be a steadfast team player in a fast-paced environment. Previous relevant work experience is preferred.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Formulate investment recommendations based on fundamental analysis, valuation and risk assessment of individual companies
  • Leverage scientific and financial mindset in writing research reports on companies for distribution to the Leerink sales force and institutional clients
  • Collect and analyze data (i.e., scientific papers, clinical trial data) on novel therapeutics
  • Interview company executives and medical/industry key opinion leaders, take detailed notes, and apply resulting insights to developing leading-edge research reports
  • Build, update and maintain financial models to inform investment recommendations
  • Keep up to date on all sector-relevant market news and medical meeting presentations
  • Answer inquiries from firm personnel and external clients
  • Support senior equity research professionals by attending events of special interest (i.e., medical conferences, company events, investor meetings)

Experience and Qualifications:
  • Qualified candidates must be hard-working self-starters with a passion for leveraging their medical/scientific background & financial modeling skills towards equity research
  • Prior industry/business experience strongly preferred: 1+ years of experience in sell-side equity research role, or 1+ years of experience in investment banking, VC / private equity, buy-side biotech investment, or top consulting firm role.
  • Medical or scientific background a plus: MS, PhD, MD or PharmD preferred
  • Fully licensed is a plus: Completion of all exams (SIE, Series 86/87, Series 63) is preferred
  • Familiarity and knowledge of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries including clinical development, regulatory affairs, business development, and commercialization
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills and strong multi-tasking ability
  • Ability to search, understand and synthesize scientific and medical publications
  • Strong quantitative, financial modeling, forecasting and Excel skills
