Looking for a career where your work truly matters? At VB Spine, you’ll be part of a mission-focused team that supports surgeons during life-changing spinal procedures. We’re the largest privately held spine company and among the largest family-owned medical technology companies in the world, dedicated to innovation, surgeon partnerships, and improving patient outcomes in spine care. As a Senior Engineer, Biomechanics Testing in our R&D function within the Spine division, you’ll be an active member of the Biomechanics Test Laboratory team — performing expert implant and instrument testing, providing technical expertise, leading laboratory projects, and advancing testing methods that support the design and verification of spinal medical devices.

What You’ll Do:
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and direction for the Biomechanics Test Laboratory team as a subject matter expert in testing for spinal medical devices
  • Partner with new product development, sustaining, and marketing teams to deliver laboratory results that support products
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of surgical procedures to develop clinically relevant test methods
  • Generate test protocols, technical documents, and test reports
  • Execute testing for experimental, characterization, and product verification purposes
  • Develop prototypes and fixtures for testing
  • Analyze data sets using statistical techniques and compare results with FEA and engineering analyses
  • Develop new testing methodologies and refine existing techniques
  • Utilize FEA (Finite Element Analysis) systems to support analytical assessment of designs prior to physical testing
  • Actively participate on cross-functional design teams to support testing needs throughout the product lifecycle
  • Utilize the PLM system for management of test laboratory documents and ensure quality documentation practices
  • Ensure laboratory notebooks, calibrations, and other Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) are maintained
  • May prepare and review information for invention disclosures and patent applications
  • Provide input at Trade Meetings and Standards Boards (such as ASTM) to support the field and VB Spine Biomechanics Laboratory
  • Evaluate laboratory practices and drive improvements in engineering acumen and efficiency
What You Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering from an accredited college or university (Master’s preferred; PhD welcomed)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experimental test laboratory experience (4+ years preferred); medical device industry experience preferred
  • Experience with mechanical testing systems including electromagnetic and servohydraulic test frames (Instron or MTS experience preferred)
  • Moderate experience with parametric CAD packages (Creo or SolidWorks preferred) and CAE software
  • Strong data analytics skills and basic project management ability (managing test development, timelines, budgets, and goals)
  • Experience and demonstrated proficiency with design controls within a regulated industry
  • Excellent technical communication skills and strong general communication abilities
  • Ability to handle assignments of high technical complexity and apply professional judgment
  • Ability to work with a moderate level of supervision
