Inova Schar Heart & Vascular is seeking board certified Vascular Surgeon to join an expanding nationally recognized team of surgeons in a high-volume, growing multi-disciplinary practice spanning the expansive Northern Virginia regional catchment area. The ideal Vascular Surgeon will be proficient in various aspects of vascular surgery that bring value to our growth, research, teaching and clinical initiatives.

Chief of Vascular Surgery Position Details:

  • Schedule:
    • Clinic / Operating room / Hospital consults
    • Administration of Vascular services at IFMC
    • Participation in education and research

  • Call Requirement:
    • Weekend call (system based, approximately one in seven weekends)
    • Weekday call (hospital based, approximately one day per week)

  • Patient Volume:
    • Clinic - weekly outpatient clinics with established referral patterns, but room for expansion
    • Surgical - opportunity to grow a robust practice based on interest and desire

  • Support:
    • Vascular group - ten attendings
    • Clinics
      • Individual
      • Outpatient RN staffed
      • Inpatient PA staff in hospital
      • Vascular surgery fellows as integrated with the Military Fellowship
      • Surgical residents on a dedicated vascular team
      • Administrative structure in place
      • Vascular lab system - multiple labs with growing volumes
      • Interventional Radiology - collaboration to optimize patient care
      • Hybrid room technology


  • Procedural Experience:
    • Aortic pathology diagnosis and treatment
    • All other facets of vascular therapy
      • Carotid
      • lower extremity
      • venous disease - superficial and deep
      • dialysis access

    • Wound Centers and HBO program



Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited institution. Board eligible or board certified in Vascular Surgery
  • Experience: Completed ACGME residency training in Vascular Surgery, or, General Surgery with a subsequent fellowship with ABS board certification in Vascular Surgery
  • Licensure: Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Virginia.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS)/ACLS upon start
  • Payer Credentialing: Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and Ability to enrolled as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor
  • Medical Staff Credentialing: Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services
