What are vanity projects?

Vanity projects are endeavors, typically in the arts, entertainment, or business, that are undertaken primarily to fulfill the personal interests, ambitions, or ego of the individual or organization funding the project, rather than to achieve commercial success or meet a genuine market need. These projects often involve significant investment of time, money, or resources, and may not be financially viable or widely appealing. Vanity projects are common in film, music, publishing, and startup ventures, where the main motivation is personal satisfaction or prestige rather than profit.
