Job description

The Value Stream Manager is responsible for the overall management of a Value Stream production area, in order to ensure safety, quality, performance and continuous improvement. As part of the primary mission, he/she ensures the achievement of the VSM results in compliance with work standards and the Silgan quality system, achieving total customer satisfaction. This leader is a change agent developing short and long-term goals and creating a continuous improvement environment with unconditional commitment to safety, employee development and engagement.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Implements strategic programs that improve labor efficiency, on-time delivery, continuous quality improvement, work place safety and exceed customer requirements
  • Drives a corporate culture that focuses on facts, tangible results and behaviors
  • Manages the VSM aactivity: participates in the development of production schedules with the supply chain, adapts production capacities to the load on a daily basis, and determines machine priorities with team.
  • Maintains value stream staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting training and developing employees
  • Accomplishes staff results by communicating job goals and expectations, planning, monitoring and appraising job results; coaching and counseling and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies and procedures
  • Achieves financial objectives by establishing team objectives, developing budgets, controlling costs and maximizing use of available assets
  • Leads a trained and motivated team capable of implementing and executing the business strategy
  • Develops an industrial performance improvement plan (quality, costs, deadlines, safety) and reports results
  • Works with all functional departments to actively pursue manufacturing excellence programs along with fostering a “one plant” partnership with peers to achieve aligned goals
  • Develops and implements with Senior Operations Manager an annual operating plan including capitol plan, cost reduction projects, production department budget, eliminating non-value, and defining Six Sigma & Kaizen profit improvement programs
  • Ability to create business cases for future investment/improvement opportunities
  • Communicates and facilitates meetings effectively
  • Managing problem solving – root cause analysis – corrective actions leading the PDCA thinking so that problems are dealt with rapidly and skillfully
  • Ensures deployment of and compliance with production standards, environmental workplace health and safety guidelines.
  • Provide management with detailed reporting as required – daily, weekly, monthly, etc.
  • Other duties as required.


Requirements:

  • BS Degree preferred.
  • 5-8 years’ experience improving team’s results in a semi-automated assembly or injection molding operation.
  • Experience in managing multiple functional groups (operators, mechanics, front line supervisors) in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in Lean and/or A3 methodologies with demonstrated success in leading continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ability to work within multiple levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of high-level ERP systems.
  • Ability to use programs like Microsoft Excel to track trends and measure improvement.
  • Ability to lead people development.
  • Excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills
