Val information

What is a val?

Val jobs typically refer to roles related to 'Validation' in various industries, such as pharmaceuticals, engineering, or software. Professionals in validation (often called 'Val' for short) ensure that processes, equipment, or systems meet required standards and function as intended. Their responsibilities include creating validation protocols, performing tests, documenting results, and troubleshooting issues. These jobs are critical for maintaining quality, safety, and compliance with industry regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a valuation analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Valuation Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, financial modeling skills, and a solid understanding of accounting principles, typically supported by a degree in finance or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Excel, Bloomberg, and financial databases, as well as certifications such as CFA or ASA, is highly valuable. Attention to detail, critical thinking, and effective communication are important soft skills for presenting complex valuation findings to clients or stakeholders. These skills ensure accurate valuations, compliance with industry standards, and clear decision support in financial transactions.

What are some of the common challenges faced by validation engineers when working on cross-functional projects?

Validation Engineers often collaborate with diverse teams such as manufacturing, quality assurance, and R&D. One common challenge is aligning validation protocols with varying departmental priorities and timelines, which requires strong communication and organizational skills. Balancing regulatory compliance with practical operational constraints can also be complex, especially in highly regulated industries. Proactively engaging stakeholders early and maintaining clear documentation are key strategies for overcoming these challenges.

Overview:

Signalink is seeking an Aviation Analyst to join our growing team supporting U.S. Army aviation modernization, prototype integration, system validation, and fielding activities. This position is ideal for an experienced aviation maintainer, avionics technician, crew chief, or aircraft systems specialist who enjoys solving complex technical problems and working directly with engineers and Army customers.

The Aviation Analyst serves as a technical liaison between engineering teams and end users by supporting aircraft modification efforts through prototype installations, demonstrations, validation and verification (VAL/VER) events, troubleshooting, and technical evaluations. This individual will travel to customer locations to assist with aircraft integration activities, identify and resolve installation issues, validate engineering designs, and provide hands-on technical expertise throughout the system development lifecycle.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide technical support during prototype installations, aircraft modification efforts, demonstrations, customer evaluations, and validation/verification (VAL/VER) events.
  • Troubleshoot aircraft mechanical, electrical, avionics, and integration issues on Army rotary-wing platforms, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Work closely with engineering, logistics, manufacturing, and technical publications teams to ensure aircraft modifications are accurately implemented and documented.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, installation instructions, technical manuals, and aircraft schematics to support modification activities.
  • Perform aircraft system operational checks and assist with diagnosing discrepancies discovered during installation, integration, or testing.
  • Document technical findings, installation observations, discrepancies, and recommended design improvements for engineering review.
  • Provide technical guidance to installation teams and customers regarding aircraft systems, troubleshooting procedures, and modification requirements.
  • Assist engineering teams during design reviews by providing maintainability, installation, and operational feedback.
  • Coordinate with Army customers, OEM representatives, and internal project teams to resolve technical issues and ensure successful project execution.
  • Support logistics, maintenance, and sustainment activities as required to meet overall program objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records of field activities, troubleshooting efforts, and technical recommendations.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience maintaining, modifying, troubleshooting, or supporting military or commercial aircraft.
  • Experience working with aircraft mechanical, electrical, avionics, or integrated aircraft systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, maintenance manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers and engineering teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.
  • Active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Huntsville, Alabama.

Preferred Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience supporting U.S. Army rotary-wing aircraft, particularly UH-60 Black Hawk variants.
  • Military aviation maintenance experience as a mechanic, crew chief, avionics technician, electrician, or technical inspector.
  • Familiarity with Army aviation technical manuals (TMs), Modification Work Orders (MWOs), wiring diagrams, and maintenance procedures.
  • Experience supporting prototype aircraft modifications, developmental testing, operational testing, or validation and verification activities.
  • Knowledge of aircraft electrical systems, avionics integration, wiring practices, and system diagnostics.
  • Experience supporting engineering organizations, field service activities, or technical publication development.
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification is a plus.
  • Experience working in a DoD engineering, logistics, or sustainment environment.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new aircraft systems, customer requirements, and dynamic field environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
