LOCUM TENENS DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGIST
Providence VA Healthcare System | Providence, Rhode Island
Full-Time Locum | On-Site | Federal Contract

COMPENSATION

  • Clinic Rate: $250–$280/hr — On-site clinical hours, Monday–Friday
  • On-Call Standby: $1,200–$1,500/week — Assigned on-call weeks (evenings, weekends, holidays). Phone consults included — paid regardless of call volume.
  • Call-Back Rate: $300–$350/hr — Physical call-in to facility due to teleradiology system failure only (extremely rare — estimated 1–2 events per year)

Final rate offered will reflect candidate experience, subspecialty expertise, and board status. Rates are negotiable within range.

OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW

We are seeking two (2) Board Certified or Board Eligible Diagnostic Radiology Physicians for a full-time locum engagement at the Providence VA Healthcare System in Providence, Rhode Island. This is a federally contracted, on-site position performing 4,160 clinic hours annually supporting the VA's Radiology Service. The contract includes an on-call rotation and a rare physical call-back requirement.

ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

  • Facility: Providence VA Healthcare System
  • Location: 830 Chalkstone Ave, Providence, RI 02908
  • Positions Available: 2 (Two Full-Time Locum Physicians)
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM (tour by mutual agreement)
  • Annual Clinical Hours: 4,160 hours (2 FTE combined)
  • Contract Start: Estimated September 7, 2026
  • Contract Length: 1 Year Base + up to 6-Month Extension Option
  • On-Call Frequency: Max 1 week per month per physician (5-person rotation with 3 existing VA staff radiologists)
  • Physical Call-In: Rare — estimated 1–2 events per year (teleradiology failure only)
  • Setting: Federal VA Medical Center — Non-Personal Services Contract

CLINICAL SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret diagnostic imaging studies: X-Ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, Nuclear Medicine, DEXA
  • CT/MRI subspecialty required in at least one area: Body, Neuro, or MSK
  • Turnaround times: STAT ≤1 hour | ASAP ≤8 hours | Routine ≤48 hours
  • Protocol examinations; prescribe contrast agents per ACR guidelines and ALARA principles
  • Consult with referring clinicians; communicate critical and urgent findings per departmental policy
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences including tumor boards and M&M conferences (as clinically indicated)
  • Complete OPPE/FPPE peer review documentation; support QA/QI activities
  • Document all care in VA EHR (VistA/CPRS); VA EHR training provided on-site


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MD or DO with current, full, and unrestricted license in any U.S. state, territory, or DC
  • Board Certified (American Board of Radiology) OR Board Eligible (within 5 years of ACGME/AOA residency completion, no failed boards)
  • ACGME or AOA-accredited residency in Diagnostic Radiology
  • Active ACLS and BLS certification (AHA-accredited)
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) number
  • Ability to pass VA background investigation (Tier 1 / Low Risk — SF-85A)
  • OIG/LEIE exclusion-free status
  • No prior license restrictions, suspensions, revocations, or surrenders


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience working within the VA healthcare system
  • Familiarity with VistA and/or CPRS electronic health record systems
  • Experience providing care to veteran populations
  • Multisubspecialty expertise (Body + Neuro, Body + MSK, etc.)
