Job description
The primary purpose of this position is to install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment associated with the production, chemical treatment and filtration of well water. To maintain fire suppression systems, backflow prevention devices and other plumbing systems.Qualifications:In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance & Operations Work Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of technical practices to perform various operational repairs and preventive maintenance on items such as control valves, motors, pumps, and other types of water distribution and control systems including skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and a variety of test equipment related to the occupation.
2. Knowledge of operational and maintenance records, manual and/or automated, required for pumps and other equipment.
3. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures; and ability to follow oral and written instructions.
4. Skill in carrying out numerous equipment operation procedures for the control chemical flow into the potable water system.
5. Skill in troubleshooting complex problems through application of prescribed test procedures and equipment and knowledge of water treatment and analysis procedures using prescribed test equipment and chemicals to test and treat water and operate systems equipment.
6. Ability to read and interpret instructions, blueprints, drawings, sketches, and specifications related to the utility systems operated and maintained
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work involves considerable walking, standing on concrete floors, and climbing stairways and ladders. Light to heavy effort used in lifting and turning valves and controls weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and occasionally items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment. Work requires moderate to strenuous physical effort and long periods of walking, kneeling, standing, climbing, bending, and crouching.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Inside work sometimes requires contact with running motors, pumps, and machinery, loud noises, and poor ventilation. Cuts, bruises and broken bones may result from accidents while working around machinery or while climbing around equipment. Outside work involves traveling to various pumping or booster stations in all types of weather. Employee may be subject to cuts and abrasions from use of tools and equipment, and danger from exposure to chlorine gas and other chemicals.Education:Employment Type: OTHER
