Given ongoing construction and development plans, our current apartment portfolio of 6,000 plus units is expected to double in the next couple of years and rise to over 12,000 units in the next five years.

the timing is ideal for qualified candidates to come on-board.
We're currently seeking an Excavation Project Manager for our Excavation Department.
Job Summary
The Excavation Project Manager is responsible for coordinating field operations, inspections, utilities, estimating, purchasing, and overall project tracking for all EPX projects.
This role acts as a critical liaison between Engineering / Land Development and EPX field operations, ensuring projects progress efficiently,
inspections and materials are aligned with schedules, and costs are controlled from pre-construction through completion.
The Project Manager supports daily field operations while managing administrative, estimating, purchasing, and reporting responsibilities across multiple active projects.
Reports To:
Director of Excavation
Works Closely With: General Superintendent, Production Coordinator, Dispatcher, Engineering / Land Development (LD)
Candidate will work full-time in our office located in South Plainfield, NJ
Responsibilities
Project Management & Field Coordination Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate inspections required for excavation, utilities, paving, and related field work
  • Coordinate directly with utility companies to support project schedules and service installations
  • Serve as liaison between Engineering / Land Development and EPX field operations
  • Track progress on all EPX projects, ensuring schedules and milestones are maintained
  • Coordinate contract completions and support closeout documentation
  • Develop and coordinate weekly field schedules, ensuring all prerequisites are in place (inspections, materials, utilities, equipment, manpower)
  • Assist the General Superintendent with daily field operations while handling administrative tasks related to field work
  • Identify conflicts or delays and proactively work with field leadership to resolve issues

Estimating & Takeoffs:
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for excavation, grading, utilities, and site development work
  • Develop material, labor, and equipment cost estimates for internal projects and external bids
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and project requirements to determine full scope of work
  • Collaborate with the Division Manager and General Superintendent to validate estimates, production rates, and sequencing
  • Maintain and update a cost database for materials, equipment, and subcontractors to support accurate pricing

Coordination & Logistics:
  • Work closely with the Excavation Dispatcher to schedule material pickups and deliveries to job sites
  • Communicate regularly with field supervisors and the General Superintendent regarding material needs and timelines
  • Resolve material shortages, delivery delays, and quality issues with vendors and project teams
  • Assist the Production Coordinator in aligning material purchasing with project schedules and manpower planning

Collaboration & Reporting:
  • Provide regular updates to the Division Manager on project status, estimating accuracy, purchasing performance, and budget impacts
  • Participate in project handoff meetings to communicate estimated costs, material assumptions, and procurement strategies
  • Track and report material costs against approved project budgets
  • Support the Production Coordinator in maintaining accurate cost-to-complete and job cost reports

Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in excavation, site work, utilities, or heavy civil construction
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and field operations
  • Proven experience coordinating inspections, utilities, and multi-project schedules
  • Experience with estimating, takeoffs, and material purchasing
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and construction/project management software

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience working within a self-perform excavation or site-work division
  • Familiarity with internal development projects and in-house field crews
  • Experience coordinating with engineering, land development, and municipal agencies
