Job description

Freese and Nichols is looking for Sr. Project Manager - W/WW Transmission and Utilities in Charlotte, NC. In this role, you'll lead complex W/WW conveyance and utility projects and serve as a trusted project manager for Charlotte-area utilities. You'll guide multidisciplinary teams, deliver high-quality solutions, and help grow key client relationships in a market where credibility and follow-through matter.
What You'll Do
  • Lead W/WW transmission and utilities projects from planning through design and delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships as a trusted project manager for Charlotte-area utilities.
  • Direct multidisciplinary teams and subconsultants to deliver work that meets scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Make independent engineering decisions on complex problems and adapt methods and techniques to fit project needs.
  • Manage project execution, including risk management, change management, and clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Oversee quality control for technical deliverables, reports, and contract requirements.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and technical staff through coaching, review, and feedback.
  • Support business development by contributing to pursuits, proposals, and client strategy for key accounts.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
  • 8+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and make independent decisions on engineering problems and methods.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with clients, internal teams, and project stakeholders.

Preferred
  • Established credibility and trusted relationships with Charlotte-area utilities.
  • Experience delivering W/WW transmission and utilities work (for example, conveyance programs, transmission mains, pump stations, lift stations, or condition assessment/rehabilitation planning tied to conveyance systems).
  • Demonstrated seller-doer strengths, including client development and growing key accounts.
  • Experience administering and implementing contracts for complex consulting engagements.
  • Active participation in relevant professional organizations and continuing education.
