Job Summary:
As the Drill Locator, you will support underground utility construction by locating and guiding directional boring operations to ensure safe and accurate installation of underground infrastructure. You will work closely with drilling crews to avoid utility conflicts, maintain equipment, and ensure compliance with safety and utility regulations. Your customers include internal construction teams, supervisors, and project stakeholders, and you will contribute to project success through precision, teamwork, and safety.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
• Communicate clear instructions to drill operators to safely avoid damaging underground utilities.
• Maintain locating equipment and report repair or maintenance issues to Fleet or Foreman.
• Understand and comply with current bluestake laws and utility marking regulations.
• Calibrate and operate locating equipment, including sonde systems, to ensure accurate drilling guidance.
• Work collaboratively with the drilling team to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Support field operations by maintaining jobsite safety, organization, and communication.
• Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.

Required Qualifications:

Education, Licensing, and Certifications
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record required.
• CDL required.

Experience
• Experience in underground utility locating or directional boring operations required.
• Experience working with utility locating systems and bore path planning preferred.

Skills and Abilities
• Ability to mix proper drilling mud based on ground conditions.
• Ability to properly calibrate sonde equipment.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear direction to drilling crews.
• Ability to lift and carry 50–75 lbs.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Positive attitude with adaptability and willingness to learn new processes.
• Commitment to teamwork, reliability, innovation, and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience using SUBSITE or UMAG locating systems.
• Mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting skills.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
• Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and around active construction equipment.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.
