Salary: Dependent on Experience

LOCATION: Projects in Southern Oregon

COMPENSATION: Dependent on Experience - Prevailing Wage Opportunity

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt


SUMMARY


Laborers perform tasks involving physical labor to support craft trades (carpenters, iron workers, etc.) as well as the fulfillment of general conditions (organization, cleaning, etc.) in support of construction projects. Their work is essential to maintaining an efficient, organized work crew and project site.


SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Clears and prepares construction sites.
  • Selective demolition of buildings and other structures using hand tools and various types of equipment.
  • Assist craft workers (carpenters, iron workers, etc.) as directed.
  • Dig pits, trenches, and foundations, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, rakes, etc.
  • Mobilize and organizes tools, equipment, and supplies to and from construction sites.
  • Operate tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, concrete mixers, rotary-hammers, concrete vibrators, shovels, etc.
  • Assemble scaffold, ladders, and other tools and equipment to provide access for workers.
  • Position structural components such as structural steel or pre-cast concrete.
  • Build, position, dismantle, and clean concrete formwork.
  • Shovel, mix, and place concrete.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Mix ingredients to create compounds or covering or cleaning surfaces.
  • Grind, scrape, sand, or polish surfaces, such as concrete or wood.
  • Tend to tools and equipment lubricate, clean, and repair.
  • Direct traffic (flagging) to ensure safety of pedestrians, motorists, and work crew.
  • Climb to heights and conduct work with proper safety restraints.
  • Clean construction sites during and at conclusion of construction activities.
  • Work in varied and inclement weather conditions.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts and within loud noise levels.
  • Other tasks as directed.


EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED


  • Supply basic hand tools (hammer, demolition bar, work bag, etc.)
  • Provide reliable transportation to and from assigned varied work sites.
  • Ability to identify and remain aware of utilities.
  • Adhere to safety standards.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and move up to 70 lbs. occasionally.
  • Sitting (or driving) in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s).
  • Communication using the spoken word.
  • Ability to see within normal parameters, including discernment of colors.
  • Ability to hear within normal range.
  • Ability to move about a construction site including, but not limited to: climbing ladders and scaffold, and walk over uneven terrain.
  • Pass drug screening test.

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS/LICENSES

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred, but not mandatory.
  • At least two years of progressive experience in commercial construction field labor.
  • Valid drivers license and reasonable driving record.
  • 10-hour OSHA training (within six months of hire)
