With a rapidly expanding portfolio of projects across MISO and other key North American markets, we are seeking a highly motivated Senior Interconnection Engineer to join our dynamic team. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to our organization’s growth while taking a lead technical role in cutting-edge renewable energy projects.

Job Summary:

Responsibilities include leading interconnection studies, performing advanced power flow modeling and transmission analysis, supporting application strategy, and coordinating with utilities and ISOs. The Senior Transmission Planning Engineer provides technical leadership across multiple projects and serves as a key resource during development, execution, and construction phases of the interconnection process.

Essential Functions:

  • Track, manage, and support assigned projects across all lifecycle phases, ensuring effective coordination with TSPs, ISOs, internal teams, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Perform and lead power flow modeling, interconnection analyses, economic assessments, and utility coordination to identify optimal project locations and sizes.
  • Conduct transmission analysis to evaluate constraints, congestion, curtailment risk, and basis risk.
  • Review interconnection study results and validate modeling assumptions, inputs, and outputs.
  • Support preparation and submission of interconnection applications and study data.
  • Assist with review and negotiation of interconnection agreements, including technical exhibits and specifications.
  • Lead development and technical review of single-line diagrams and interconnection facility designs.
  • Develop and track schedules and milestones in coordination with the master project schedule and EPC timelines.
  • Monitor engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of interconnection facilities and lead technical coordination calls as needed.
  • Represent OCI Energy in technical discussions at ISO meetings and provide internal updates on project impacts.
  • Assist in generator registration with utilities, RTO/ISOs, and regulatory agencies.
  • Support ISO, NERC, FERC, and other regional compliance efforts.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus in power systems or Computer Engineering.
  • Two plus (2+) years of experience in transmission planning, interconnection studies, or power market analysis within the power industry.
  • Hands-on experience with PowerWorld, PSSE, PLEXOS, or other power flow and PCM software preferred.
  • Ability to independently perform interconnection and transmission analyses with limited supervision.
  • Familiarity with interconnection processes, particularly within ERCOT and/or MISO markets preferred.
  • Working knowledge of reliability, stability, congestion, curtailment, and LMP concepts.
  • Programming experience, particularly with Python, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
