Job description

Job Title:         Facilities & Maintenance Engineer
Client:              Heavy Machine Manufacturing Company
Location:         Waterloo, IA 50704
Duration:         24 Months (Possible Extension/Conversion)
Shift:                1st Shift (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)

Job Summary

Support facility infrastructure, maintenance, and manufacturing projects. Responsible for project management, equipment troubleshooting, contractor coordination, safety compliance, and facility improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage facility and maintenance-related projects
• Coordinate contractors, skilled trades, and vendors
• Support manufacturing equipment and facility infrastructure
• Troubleshoot production and maintenance issues
• Review hot work permits and safety requirements
• Support Emergency Notification Systems (ENS) projects
• Coordinate building, electrical, mechanical, and structural projects
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and documentation
• Ensure OSHA, safety, and building code compliance
• Support continuous improvement and facility upgrades

Work Environment / Role Nature

• Manufacturing / factory environment
• Approximately 75% shop floor presence
• Multi-project, fast-paced environment
• Cross-functional collaboration with operations, maintenance, engineering, and contractors

Required Skills

• Project Management – 3+ years
• Manufacturing Engineering / Operations / Maintenance experience
• Contractor & skilled trades coordination – 5+ years
• Building infrastructure systems (mechanical, electrical, structural) – 3+ years
• OSHA & safety compliance knowledge
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred Skills

• Emergency Notification Systems (ENS) experience
• FM Global insurance coordination experience
• Material handling equipment experience
• Facility improvement and capital project experience
• Vendor and supplier management

Technical / Functional Exposure

• Facility infrastructure systems
• Manufacturing equipment support

• Project budgeting and scheduling
• Engineering design and implementation

Education / Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field
• 5+ years coordinating projects, contractors, or maintenance activities preferred
• Manufacturing facility experience strongly preferred

Physical Requirements

• Must wear metatarsal safety boots
• Comfortable working on manufacturing shop floor
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
• Ability to spend extended periods standing and walking in factory environment
