Utility Data Analyst information

What does a utility data analyst do?

A Utility Data Analyst is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to utilities such as electricity, water, or gas. They use various analytical tools and software to identify trends, optimize operations, improve efficiency, and support decision-making. Their work often involves working with large datasets, preparing reports, and collaborating with engineers, managers, and other stakeholders to help utility companies make data-driven decisions.

What are some common challenges utility data analysts face when working with large datasets from multiple sources?

Utility Data Analysts often encounter challenges such as data inconsistency, missing information, and varying formats when integrating data from different sources like smart meters, SCADA systems, and billing platforms. Ensuring data accuracy and quality control is crucial, as errors can impact decision-making and reporting. Analysts frequently collaborate with IT teams and engineers to resolve data issues and develop standardized processes, making strong communication and problem-solving skills essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a utility data analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Utility Data Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, proficiency in statistics, and a background in data science, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with data visualization tools (like Tableau or Power BI), SQL, and utility-specific software such as SCADA or GIS systems is important, and certifications in data analytics can be advantageous. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential soft skills for interpreting data and sharing insights with diverse teams. These skills are crucial for optimizing utility operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enabling data-driven decision-making.

Job description

We Are:
Accenture's Oracle practice, and we make the new happen now. Every day, we imagine the future and bring it to life using design thinking, agile development methodologies, and new smart tech like IoT, automation, and AI. We even built our own platform, myConcerto, that mixes the best parts of Accenture and Oracle to help companies come into their own as digital leaders. Ready to find genius answers to seriously hard business challenges and work with some of the best? Come join a team that feels personal even though it's over 54,000 strong. As a Global Cloud Elite and Platinum member of the Oracle Partner Network with over 145 awards, we're proud the industry is taking notice of our work, too. Visit us here to find out more about Accenture's Oracle practice (https://www.accenture.com/us-en/services/oracle-index).
You Are:
A CC&B and CCS domain expert who specializes in business validation - the complex, multi-dimensional testing effort that confirms a CCS upgrade doesn't just work technically but accurately reproduces business outcomes across GL, collections, field activities, letters, and ToDos. You run triage like a program, not a task list. You are methodical, data-driven, and an expert communicator who can synthesize domain-level variance trends into leadership-ready insights. You know how to work across diverse workstreams and keep a high-volume triage cadence on track.
The Work:
  • Lead Tier 1 and Tier 2 business validation variance analysis across GL, Collections & Credit (C&C), Field Activities, Letters, and ToDos between CC&B and CCS upgrade environments.
  • Own the daily business validation triage cadence - reviewing BV metric outputs, categorizing variances, assigning root cause, and driving defect resolution across domain workstreams.
  • Create structured defect records with root cause analysis, domain-level impact assessment, and remediation recommendations for functional and technical teams.
  • Use SQL and Azure-based data tools (Blob Storage, ADF, Azure SQL) to investigate variance root cause at the data layer across GL transactions, batch processing, and ToDo management.
  • Analyze business validation patterns and trends by domain (GL, C&C, Field Activities, Letters, ToDos) to surface systemic configuration or logic gaps.
  • Present domain-level trend analysis, defect aging summaries, and open risk items to program leadership on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with functional workstream leads, batch SMEs, and integration teams to resolve complex cross-domain business validation issues.
  • Maintain triage process documentation, defect categorization standards, and domain-level BV dashboards using Power BI and JIRA.

Travel may be required for this role. The amount of travel will vary from 0 to 100% depending on business need and client requirements.
Here's What You Need:
  • Minimum 7 years of hands-on functional experience with Oracle CC&B and/or Oracle Utilities CCS / C2M, spanning multiple functional domains (billing, GL, field activities, collections).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience using SQL and data query tools to investigate Oracle Utilities data issues, GL transactions, and batch processing results.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a business validation, triage lead, or test lead role on an Oracle Utilities implementation or upgrade program.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Azure data services (Blob Storage, ADF, or Azure SQL) in the context of utility data pipelines or testing environments.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with JIRA defect tracking and Power BI reporting in a project delivery context.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent (minimum 12 years' work experience). If Associate's Degree, must have equivalent minimum 6 years' work experience.

Bonus Points If:
  • Prior experience on a CC&B-to-CCS migration or upgrade project with business validation or parallel testing responsibilities.
  • Oracle Utilities CC&B or CCS certification.
  • Experience with batch processing validation, ToDo management workflows, or GL reconciliation in Oracle Utilities.
  • Familiarity with letter template configuration and collections process design in CC&B or CCS.
