Louis W Bray Construction is actively hiring for an experienced Pipelayer to join our team and assist in the completion of complex, Heavy Civil Construction projects in the Ottawa area.


Position Summary


The Pipelayer is responsible for the safe and accurate installation of underground watermain, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and related utility infrastructure. Working closely with the Foreman, Operators, and Labourers, this role ensures pipe is installed to specification, grade, and alignment while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.


Key Responsibilities

  • Install water, sanitary, and storm sewer pipe according to project drawings and specifications
  • Prepare trenches for pipe installation, including grading bedding material and ensuring proper alignment
  • Establish and maintain pipe grade using laser levels, grade rods, and other surveying equipment
  • Connect and secure pipe joints, fittings, valves, hydrants, and related appurtenances
  • Assist with trench box installation, shoring, and trench safety requirements
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, utility plans, and grade information
  • Direct equipment operators during excavation, bedding, and backfilling activities
  • Verify pipe elevations, line, and grade throughout the installation process
  • Conduct visual inspections of installed pipe and identify deficiencies or potential issues
  • Assist with testing, commissioning, and tie-ins of underground services
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area at all times


Qualifications

  • 2 to 5+ years of experience as a Pipelayer in heavy civil construction
  • Experience installing watermain, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer systems
  • Strong understanding of trenching, pipe installation, and underground utility construction practices
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and grade information
  • Experience working safely around heavy equipment and within active construction sites
  • Knowledge of proper rigging, lifting, and trench safety procedures
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions
