Job description

Title: Utility Asset Management Analyst

Help Power Smart Investment Decisions Across Critical Energy Infrastructure
Do you enjoy combining operational knowledge, financial analysis, and problem-solving to make an impact?
As a Plant Accounting Analyst, you'll play a vital role in ensuring capital projects are accurately tracked, classified, and placed into service. You'll work closely with Operations, Engineering, Finance, and Corporate teams to support investment decisions, maintain regulatory compliance, and help ensure the accuracy of the company's utility assets.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with utility operations experience who wants to leverage their technical knowledge while expanding their skills in accounting, financial systems, and capital project analysis.

What You'll Do
Manage Capital Project Accounting
  • Help ensure capital work orders are placed into service and completed on time.
  • Investigate delays and work with stakeholders to resolve issues that impact project completion.

Support Utility Asset & Plant Accounting
  • Review capital project costs and validate the accuracy of work order charges.
  • Assist with unitizing completed projects and validating asset information.
  • Review project and retirement records for completeness and accuracy.

Ensure Regulatory & Financial Compliance
  • Verify that capital expenditures are assigned to the correct utility plant accounts in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Plant Accounting to resolve account classification issues and maintain accurate financial records.

Support Planning & Forecasting
  • Help establish and maintain appropriate work order structures and project estimates.
  • Support accurate forecasting and business decision-making by ensuring project information remains current and reliable.

Partner Across the Business
  • Provide guidance on capital work order processes and capitalization practices.
  • Work with Operations, Engineering, Accounting, and other teams to promote consistency and process excellence.

What Success Looks Like
  • Capital projects are accurately classified and placed into service on schedule.
  • Asset records and work orders are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
  • Financial forecasts are supported by reliable project data.
  • Stakeholders receive timely guidance on capital accounting processes.
  • Utility assets are accounted for in compliance with regulatory standards.

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • 5+ years of distribution utility operations experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced use of Excel.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree from an accredited institution
  • Natural gas utility operations experience.
  • Financial, accounting, or capital project experience.
  • Experience with PowerPlan, SAP/ERP, WAM, or similar enterprise systems.

Our community relies on Peoples Gas to respond swiftly and effectively to all types of incidents, including but not limited to major storm events (e.g., extreme cold, tropical storms, hurricanes), gas leaks, equipment failures, environmental hazards, and other emergencies that may impact public safety or service continuity.
Peoples Gas depends on each team member to fulfill their primary and/or alternate roles and responsibilities during such incidents. As a Team Member of Peoples Gas, you will be assigned an Incident Response Assignment, receive training related to your role, and may participate in mock drills or exercises simulating various emergency scenarios.
