The City of Huntsville's Water Pollution Control department is seeking qualified applicants to fill our Water Pollution Control Utility Worker positions. WPC is responsible for removing pollutants from the wastewater ("sewage") we generate in our daily lives at home, in schools, and in our businesses and industries. Each year, WPC purifies billions of gallons of wastewater, and returns the clean reclaimed water to our waterways. Water Pollution Control Utility Worker Position Overview: This is skilled work in the operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment and machinery used in the cleaning and general maintenance of sewers and treatment facilities.

Work involves heavy manual work requiring considerable skill in the construction, maintenance and repair of the City's wastewater collections system and treatment facilities. Work involves occasional truck driving as well as the operation of various machines and equipment. Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements: A valid driver's license.

High school diploma or GED certificate. Some experience driving a single axle truck or tractor is desired. WorkKeys Assessment Instructions: Applicants must provide the Workkeys scores on the application to move forward in the process.

Score at least the minimum in the following components of the WorkKeys Assessment: (WorkKeys testing is available at any 2-year college) WorkKeys Assessment minimum qualifications. A valid Commercial driver's license Class B with Tank endorsement (Utility Worker must complete learners permitting within three months of beginning the apprenticeship program and Class B CDL with tanker endorsement within nine months of beginning the apprenticeship program. Successful completion of the WPC Wastewater Worker Apprenticeship Program. (Apprenticeship program would have to be completed within 18 months of the beginning of apprenticeship program as a condition of employment.)
