Title/Role: Project Manager, Substation Civil Construction
Division:
Location: (Reporting to) Wallingford, CT
Reporting to: Director - Civil Operations
Position Summary:
The Substation Civil Construction Project Manager is responsible for managing all civil construction activities associated with electrical substation projects. This role oversees planning, execution, and delivery of site development, foundations, structural concrete, grounding trenching, drainage systems, and related infrastructure required for substation construction.
The Project Manager leads field teams and subcontractors while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract documents and project specifications. The position works closely with superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, and utility clients to coordinate construction activities and resolve field issues.
Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
  • Manage civil construction activities including site development, earthwork, drilled foundations, concrete structures, grounding trenching, drainage, and underground utilities.
  • Oversee field operations, superintendents, and subcontractors to ensure safe and efficient construction.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and cost forecasts.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and contracts; manage RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
  • Track project progress and address schedule or cost impacts.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate with clients, engineers, inspectors, and internal project teams.
  • Manage project documentation, reporting, and closeout activities.
Qualifications:
  • 5-10+ years of construction project management experience.
  • Experience with utility, heavy civil, or substation construction projects preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, including earthwork, foundations, and structural concrete.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
