Utilities Locator

At Talent Consultants, every project—residential, commercial, institutional, or industrial—starts with knowing exactly what lies beneath the ground. As our Utilities Locator, you're the first line of defense protecting our crews, our clients' timelines, and the communities we build in. Your precision keeps excavations safe, projects on schedule, and our 30-year reputation for quality intact. This isn't support work—it's foundational.


  • Accurately locate and mark underground utilities (gas, electric, water, sewer, telecom, fiber) for active project sites within 48 hours of ticket receipt, maintaining a 99%+ accuracy rate.
  • Complete 15–25 locate tickets per day using electromagnetic locating equipment and GPR, with zero at-fault utility damages in your first year.
  • Produce clear, field-verified sketches and digital documentation for every locate, integrated into project records within 24 hours for use by our design and construction teams.
  • Coordinate directly with project managers, excavation crews, and municipal utility authorities to resolve conflicts before ground breaks—reducing dig-related delays by identifying issues in pre-construction phases.
  • Respond to emergency locate requests within required Virginia 811 timeframes, 100% compliance.
  • Conduct quarterly equipment calibration and maintain locating tools in field-ready condition at all times.

You'll report to our Construction Supervision Lead and work alongside a tight-knit field team supporting projects across the Alexandria and greater DC metro area. We equip you with modern electromagnetic locators, ground-penetrating radar, a company vehicle, and mobile documentation tools. Their organization handles projects from planning through implementation—so your findings feed directly into design decisions, not just dig permits.


  • 2+ years of utility locating experience, or equivalent field experience in construction, surveying, or utility work with strong technical aptitude.
  • Working knowledge of Virginia 811 (Miss Utility) regulations and damage prevention protocols.
  • Proficiency with electromagnetic locating equipment; GPR experience a strong plus.
  • Ability to read site plans, as-builts, and utility maps—and flag discrepancies when the drawings don't match the ground.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and comfort working outdoors in all seasons.
  • Clear written and verbal communication—your marks and reports guide crews who depend on you.
