Job description

Oil States Energy Services is currently hiring for an Inspector at our New Iberia, LA location.

This position will inspect equipment such as wash pipe, drill pipe threads, and hammer union flow iron using nondestructive techniques for acceptance or rejection determination according to written instructions and record results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain an environment that is compliant with the company’s Safety and Health Program to reduce work-related injuries and illness and to promote safety and health in every task undertaken by employees on behalf of the company.
  • Set up and operate nondestructive testing equipment.
  • Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect defects using NDT methods of inspections.
  • Establish techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety and quality processes.
  • Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable company SOP’s and API specifications and evaluate results.
  • Inspect equipment per industry standards utilizing applicable SOP’s, API manuals, and DS-1 manual.
  • Document test results on inspection reports.
  • Actively participate in safety initiatives, quality initiatives, incident investigations, etc.
  • Utilize methods such as magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic inspection, liquid penetrant inspection, and visual inspection to determine if a part or tool contains imperfections that could cause failure.
  • Assist in developing written procedures and practices for conducting NDT methods on pipe.
  • Inspect, band and complete documentation per the company standard operating procedure.
  • This position is designated as a safety sensitive position.
  • Assist other employees within district
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English
  • Must have mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills.
  • General knowledge of hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment such as hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, and overhead cranes.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals in English.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be a self-starter and work independently with little supervision.
  • General knowledge of our tools and their applications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent desired.
  • Previous experience in oil field equipment inspection and repair preferred.
  • Background in mechanical repair and/or testing preferred.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSES:

  • ASNT NDT Level II certification required
  • ASNT NDT Level II in MP, LP, UT techniques
  • Weld Inspection Certification a plus
  • TH Hill DS-1 and API 7G2/ ISO 10407-2 familiarity a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and move materials up to 75 pounds. Anything over 75 pounds but less than 150 pounds will require either a lifting device or two employees. Anything over 150 pounds will require a lifting device, according to HSE guidelines.
    • Able to lift 75 lbs. from 6-inch level up to a 50-inch level frequently.
    • Swing a 6 lb. sledgehammer in a hammering motion across the chest frequently.
    • Ability to use fine hand and finger motor skills.
    • Ability to push/pull 100 lbs. of force frequently.
    • Ability to climb up equipment such as a forklift, ladder frequently.
  • Requires standing, walking. Also requires pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, carrying, sitting, climbing, balancing, reaching with hands and arms, for extended periods of time each day.
  • Exposure to shop contaminates such as oils, chemical cleaners, and paint.
  • May be required to pass pulmonary function test to wear proper respirator.
  • Requires safety glasses, steel toe boots, and ear plugs to be worn at all times.
  • Requires exposure to warm, hot, and cold temperatures.
  • Requires exposure to moderate noise levels.
