Job description


The Mailing Services Associate will represent Connecticut Children's Medical Center by providing courier services and staffing mailrooms. Drives a Connecticut Children's vehicle to make deliveries to Connecticut Children's off-campus locations. Maintains Connecticut Children's policies regarding privacy and confidentiality as the position will be responsible for transporting medical records, pharmaceuticals, bank deposits, United States Postal Service (USPS) and inter-office mail. Provides the highest level of customer care while demonstrating a friendly, cooperative and flexible attitude in a high-volume environment.
Responsibilities
COURIER
Drives a Connecticut Children's vehicle to pick-up and deliver medical records, pharmaceuticals, bank deposits, USPS and inter-office mail and other documents or packages while adhering to a strict schedule as developed by supervisor. Loads and unloads deliveries and maintains records associated with these deliveries as required. Delivers out-going USPS to designated Post Office. Performs routine maintenance checklist on vehicle (fluids, lights, etc.) and notifies supervisor of any issues. Remains available for rush deliveries as needed.
MAIL ROOM
Staffs Connecticut Children's mail rooms at 282 Washington Street, Hartford and 60 Hartland Street, East Hartford. Processes out-going USPS mail, meeting mailing requirements and quality standards and uses appropriate department codes for invoicing. Maintains inventory of all mailing supplies. Sorts all USPS and inter-office mail. Prepares all out-going UPS packages, verifies each shipment is accurately labeled and the database is updated with appropriate department codes for invoicing. Assists mail room customers. Processes bulk mailings as assigned by supervisor.
ASSIGNMENTS
Rotates the Courier and Mail Room responsibilities schedules developed by supervisor.
Demonstrates knowledge of the population-specific differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Required:
  • Education Required: High School Diploma required.
  • Experience Preferred:
    -2 to 3 years' experience in Mailing Services field or equivalent work experience preferred.
    -Familiarity with Microsoft Office, e-mail program and the Internet preferred.
    -Familiarity of postage meter machines and bulk mailing software, preferred.
License and/or Certifications Required:
  • Valid Connecticut driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge:
• Knowledge and understanding of postal regulations and pricing.
• Basic math
Skills:
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Beginner in Microsoft Windows operating system, Beginner to word processing (Microsoft Word) and data entry skills.
• Skill in use of operating basic office equipment (e.g. copier, fax, calculator, multi-function telephone)
Ability to:
• Effectively communicate both orally and in writing in English demonstrating a command of basic grammar and spelling is required.
• Understand and follow specific written and verbal instructions and procedures.
• Organize and manage tasks and activities on daily basis with attention to detail
• Meet deadlines
• Work efficiently and with accuracy within a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrate professionalism, maturity, good judgment and ability to represent Connecticut Children's.
• To use a hand truck.
• Lift up to 50 lbs.
