What is a USPS Contract Driver?

A USPS Contract Driver is an independent contractor or employee hired by a private company to transport mail for the United States Postal Service (USPS) along designated routes. Unlike regular USPS employees, contract drivers work for companies that have been awarded USPS transportation contracts. Their primary duties include picking up, transporting, and delivering mail between post offices, processing centers, and other facilities, ensuring timely and secure mail delivery. They must follow strict USPS guidelines and schedules, and may be required to pass background checks and meet specific vehicle standards.

How hard is it to get a job as a USPS contract driver?

Becoming a USPS contract driver involves meeting specific requirements such as a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and passing background checks. The process can be competitive, and experience with delivery routes or commercial driving licenses (CDL) may improve chances. The hiring process typically includes an application, interview, and vehicle inspection.
