Job Title: Transportation Operator

GovFirst is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Transportation Operator to support roadway maintenance operations in Seaford, VA. This position is responsible for assisting with the maintenance and repair of state roadways and rights-of-way, operating maintenance equipment and tools, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting emergency response operations. The ideal candidate is committed to safety, teamwork, and delivering high-quality roadway maintenance services.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the repair and maintenance of state roadways, bridges, and surrounding rights-of-way.
  • Perform roadway maintenance activities including debris removal, vegetation control, and general maintenance tasks.
  • Participate as an active member of the maintenance crew to complete assigned projects safely and efficiently.
  • Perform heavy manual labor required to support roadway maintenance operations.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and roadway maintenance equipment.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools.
  • Report equipment deficiencies or repair needs to supervisors.
  • Utilize equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and safety procedures.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Maintain knowledge of OSHA, VOSHA, VDOT, and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Follow all roadway work zone safety regulations and best practices.
  • Support emergency operations including snow removal, storm response, roadway incident response, and accident cleanup.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and severe weather events when required.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and crew members to accomplish project objectives.
  • Perform additional maintenance duties as assigned by supervisors or the USF Senior Project Manager.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of roadway maintenance methods, equipment, materials, and procedures.
  • Experience operating roadway maintenance equipment and performing preventive maintenance.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work safely in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to respond to emergency operations, including nights, weekends, holidays, storms, and disaster response.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and teamwork.
Required Education & Credentials:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Equivalent education, training, or related experience may be considered.
Required Work Authorization:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Required Licenses, Certifications & Screening:
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred but not required.
  • Successful completion of required VDOT and industry-specific training.
  • Pre-employment drug screening required.
